Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Level 2 Server Break-Fix Technician to support enterprise data center and lab operations. This position is responsible for independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining server infrastructure in a fast-paced production environment.

The ideal candidate possesses strong hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience and can perform root-cause analysis without requiring guidance from engineering teams. This role is heavily focused on server break-fix, installations, upgrades, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot a wide variety of server hardware issues and independently isolate root causes.
  • Diagnose and repair failures involving CPUs, memory, storage devices, RAID controllers, motherboards, power supplies, NICs, and other server components.
  • Order replacement parts, perform hardware repairs, and manage RMA processes by returning defective components to vendors.
  • Install and update server firmware to ensure systems remain compliant with approved standards and current releases.
  • Configure server management interfaces, IP addresses, network settings, and default administrative credentials.
  • Support network administrators with server-related issues, including:
  • Replacing damaged or defective cables
  • Re-routing network and power cabling
  • Replacing optics on server and switch ports
  • Installing upgraded server components
  • Troubleshooting connectivity and hardware issues
  • Rack, stack, cable, and provision servers and network switches within data center and lab environments.
  • Assist network administrators with physical infrastructure tasks to facilitate remote configuration and deployment activities.
  • Support both production and lab environments while maintaining operational standards and minimizing downtime.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, and engineering teams to quickly resolve hardware incidents.
  • Assist with Level 1 operational responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience performing Level 2 server break-fix troubleshooting in a data center, enterprise, hyperscale, or lab environment.
  • Strong understanding of server hardware architecture and infrastructure components.
  • Experience replacing and upgrading server hardware components.
  • Hands-on experience with firmware updates, hardware diagnostics, and system configuration.
  • Knowledge of server networking components, optics, cabling, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Experience racking, stacking, cabling, and provisioning servers and network equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise server platforms from Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, or Supermicro.
  • Familiarity with data center operations, cabling standards, and physical infrastructure best practices.
  • Experience supporting both server and network infrastructure teams.
  • Prior experience in large-scale data center or cloud environments.

Critical Requirement

This role requires true Level 2 break-fix experience.

Candidates must be capable of independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware issues. This position is not intended for individuals whose experience is limited to remote hands support, basic ticket execution, or following step-by-step instructions provided by engineers who have already completed the troubleshooting process.

The expectation for this role is hands-on technical ownership of server issues from diagnosis through resolution. Technicians must be comfortable performing independent root-cause analysis, hardware replacement, system restoration, and operational support within a production data center environment.
