Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Iowa is seeking a Data Center Systems Analyst to join the team supporting the University’s enterprise data centers.This is a highly hands-on role for an IT professional who enjoys working directly with servers, hardware, cabling, networking, and the physical infrastructure that keeps critical systems running. This role will work across a broad range of technologies while partnering with technical teams throughout ITS and the University to deploy, maintain, troubleshoot, and support systems and services.The person in this role will combine technical problem-solving with careful, detail-oriented infrastructure, helping ensure systems are installed securely, documented accurately, and supported reliably throughout their lifecycle.Key Job Duties (not all inclusive):Install, configure, cable, label, maintain, and decommission servers and other equipment in the University’s enterprise data centers.Gather system and network requirements and assist with planning and provisioning new technology deployments.Provide hands-on “remote hands” support for systems and equipment managed by IT partners across the University.Troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, application, and infrastructure issues and assist with identifying root causes.Apply security standards and best practices, while maintaining accurate inventories, system documentation, and cable records.Collaborate with infrastructure teams, distributed IT staff, vendors, and campus partners to deliver reliable services, including participation in a rotating after-hours, on-call schedule.This position offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of enterprise infrastructure technologies while developing a deep understanding of how large-scale IT environments operate.If you enjoy solving problems, working hands-on with technology, and seeing how enterprise infrastructure comes together from the server rack up, we encourage you to apply.There is an expectation that the individual in this position will maintain effective, civil, and respectful working relationships with the University of Iowa campus community and uphold the University’s commitment to creative a welcoming and respectful environment for all.This position has a project assignment of 1 year and is classified as a "specified term appointment" as a Systems Analyst (PIF1) with full fringe benefits.This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.This is a 100% onsite position.The hiring range for this position is anticipated to be $55,000 - $60,000. Salary offers are based on a variety of factors, including education, experience, skills, and budget considerations. Qualifications:Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the position or an equivalent combination of education and related experienceExperience (typically 1-2 years) working in an enterprise level configuration (250+ users) including supporting and managing related technologiesDemonstrated ability to assist in system designExperience in applying the process of securing servers and applicationsDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staffDemonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting skills in enterprise systemsValid U.S. driver’s license and the ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety requirements (see website for info) https://uiowa.edu/riskmanagement/vehicle-useAbility to accomplish day to day tasks including move and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.USA citizenship, permanent residency, or protected person status is required for ITAR compliance.Desirable Qualifications:Experience supporting, configuring, or administering MS SharePoint servicesExperience with server cabinet and cable management and cable labeling.Familiarity with virtualization (i.e. VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, VirtualBox, UCS)Knowledge of Active DirectoryExperience supporting technology in a higher educational settingExperience with storage systems (NAS, SAN, iSCSI, etc.)Knowledge of EIA/TIA standards and an understanding of fiber optic cabling, including patching, testing and documentationIndustry certificationsApplication Details:In order to be considered, applicants must upload the following materials and mark them as “Relevant File” to the submission:ResumeCover letterInformation Technology Services will be hiring for one level listed within this requisition, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.
