Job Description

Samsung SDS America (SDSA) supports Samsung’s global technology ecosystem by delivering secure, high‑performance IT infrastructure and enterprise solutions across cloud, mobility, analytics, and advanced manufacturing environments.

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Operations Engineer to own the day-to-day physical infrastructure of our data center environment. This role goes beyond basic rack-and-stack work — you'll be responsible for monitoring and maintaining power and cooling systems, owning our DCIM and CCTV/security platforms, coordinating vendor refresh projects end-to-end, and partnering closely with network and engineering teams on capacity planning and new deployments. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning critical infrastructure systems with minimal oversight, including proven experience managing Schneider Electric DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools.

This position is full time onsite in Austin, TX

Key Responsibilities:

Power & Cooling

  • Install, configure, and monitor PDUs (Power Distribution Units) throughout the environment
  • Verify rack-level power limits and ensure racks stay within maximum power thresholds
  • Install, configure, and monitor temperature and environmental sensor
  • Install power whips and perform proper grounding procedures

DCIM, Monitoring & Security Systems

  • Manage and maintain the Schneider Electric DCIM platform, including asset tracking, capacity planning, and power/cooling documentation
  • Build, maintain, and administer internal infrastructure monitoring systems, including supporting virtual machines (VMs)
  • Install and maintain CCTV security systems and video storage platforms (e.g., Wisenet), including managing security footage retention
  • Support ongoing camera and wireless sensor layout redesigns to improve coverage and reduce system complexity

Rack, Cabling & Equipment Installation

  • Perform rack and stack installations of servers, network equipment, and compute/storage hardware
  • Run, terminate, and troubleshoot copper and fiber network cabling
  • Install new network switches and equipment for ongoing and upcoming projects
  • Remove decommissioned network and compute equipment from racks as needed
  • Partner with network engineers to design physical port maps and cabling layouts for new deployments

Capacity Planning & Layout Design

  • Help design and plan equipment layout, rack space allocation, and environment capacity
  • Maintain an organized, neat, and audit-ready data center environment
  • Support planning for future data center moves, including equipment cleanup and cable management ("crufting")

Vendor & Cross-Team Coordination

  • Escort and supervise third-party vendors and contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with security and safety protocols
  • Coordinate and plan equipment refresh projects with vendors, including removal of old equipment and installation of new servers/chassis
  • Work with vendors on specialized installs (e.g., emulation hardware, storage systems)
  • Coordinate with network engineering teams on equipment replacements and upgrades (e.g., router/switch refreshes)
  • Support maintenance activities outside normal business hours as needed, in coordination with the network team

Hardware Support & Troubleshooting

  • Perform Level 1 (L1) troubleshooting and break/fix support on server hardware, including Dell, HPE, and Cisco servers and chassis
  • Assist with new storage and compute deployments, including cabling and physical install support
  • Support emulation environment design, including power and networking coordination for emulation deployments

General

  • Maintain accurate inventory tracking of hardware assets, spare parts, and equipment lifecycle status
  • Follow established change management, safety, and security procedures at all times
  • Document work performed, incidents, and resolutions in accordance with team standards

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working in a data center environment
  • Proven experience with rack and stack server installations
  • Solid working knowledge of copper (Cat5e/Cat6) and fiber optic cabling installation and troubleshooting
  • Experience with inventory tracking and asset management processes
  • Experience escorting and managing vendors/contractors on-site, including coordinating multi-phase refresh projects
  • Demonstrated experience performing L1 troubleshooting and break/fix on server hardware (Dell, HPE, and/or Cisco preferred)
  • General knowledge of networking concepts (switches, routers, patch panels, IP basics) and experience supporting physical port mapping with network teams
  • Recommended: Hands-on experience using Schneider Electric DCIM software (e.g., EcoStruxure IT / StruxureWare)
  • Experience monitoring and managing power (PDUs) and cooling/environmental sensor systems
  • Experience installing power whips and performing proper grounding
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically active environment (bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, etc.)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call or after-hours maintenance windows as needed
  • Eligible to work in the United States for any employer without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining CCTV/security systems and video storage platforms
  • Experience administering or maintaining virtual machines supporting infrastructure monitoring tools
  • Experience supporting capacity planning and data center layout/design decisions
  • Experience with data center relocation or decommissioning projects
