Job Description

Data Center Operations Engineer

Department: Technology

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Secaucus, NJ

We're a financial trading firm with critical infrastructure across the New Jersey metro area, and we're hiring a Data Center Operations Engineer to join our infrastructure team. You'll handle hands-on work across our NJ datacenter footprint, supporting the low-latency environment that powers our trading operations.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers from our systems, network, and hardware teams, with significant opportunities to deepen your expertise in data center operations, structured cabling, and trading infrastructure. The role offers exposure to enterprise-grade hardware, complex multi-site environments, and the operational rigor required to support a production trading platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Travel between our NJ datacenter sites to install, configure, troubleshoot, and decommission servers, network equipment, and related hardware
  • Rack, stack, cable, label, and document equipment to established standards
  • Maintain accurate rack elevation diagrams, asset inventory, and cabling records
  • Monitor environmental conditions and power utilization across all sites, and flag risks or propose corrective actions
  • Coordinate logistics for shipping and receiving of servers, network gear, and telecom equipment
  • Supervise on-site visits from external vendors, colocation smart-hands providers, and contractors
  • Maintain inventory of cabling, optics, transceivers, spare servers, and network equipment
  • Partner with our systems, network, and hardware engineering teams on deployments, capacity planning, and ongoing operational work
  • Uphold datacenter cleanliness, safety, and security standards
  • Perform most of the installation, maintenance, and project work outside of trading hours. Most operational activity happens after the US market close (4:30 PM ET), with occasional weekend maintenance windows as needed
  • Respond on-site to emergencies and first-response incidents during and outside trading hours

What We’re Looking For

  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in a data center, colocation, or telecommunications environment. Financial services or other low-latency environments are a plus
  • Working knowledge of structured cabling standards and best practices for both copper and fiber
  • Familiarity with server and network hardware from vendors like HP, Dell, Cisco, or Arista
  • Solid grasp of basic networking concepts, including Layer 1/2 troubleshooting, patch planning, and cable testing
  • Strong attention to detail with documentation, labeling, and inventory tracking
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal engineers and external vendors
  • Self-directed and reliable, with the judgment and discipline to work independently across multiple sites
  • Available to work primarily after US market close (4:30 PM ET), including occasional weekend maintenance windows
  • Able to reliably reach our primary NJ datacenter within 30 minutes for emergency response, first-response incidents, and required maintenance activities
  • Reliable personal vehicle and a valid driver's license. The role involves regular travel between our NJ sites, with approximately 75% of work time spent on-site across these locations
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical datacenter work, including racking, cabling, and climbing ladders for overhead cable runs
