
Pay and Benefits:
The Director of Data Center Facilities Engineering will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight and long-term capital planning for two mission-critical data centers: a 34K sqft 5 MW facility in Brooklyn, NY, and a 36K sqft 10 MW facility in Dallas, TX. This high-level role is responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, uptime and efficiency of both facilities while maintaining compliance with industry standards and company policies and local jurisdictions. The Director will lead the technical team for mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure and collaborate cross-functionally to support IT data center operations, business continuity, capacity planning, and infrastructure growth. The position can be based out of Dallas, TX or Brooklyn, NY (25% travel required),
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic direction and leadership for the facilities operations of two data centers, ensuring 24/7 uptime and operational excellence for mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure. Comply with and support enhancements to DTCC’s Facility Infrastructure Risk Management tool.
• Oversee and mentor two direct reports and 18 indirect reports responsible for day-to-day operation and management of each facility.
• Maintain close partnership with IT Data Center Operations to ensure critical support to IT hardware installation and troubleshooting to ensure production readiness.
• Support development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, training, and best practices to ensure continuous uptime of the data centers along with compliance with corporate policies.
• Adhere to and operate within policies/procedures defined by DTCC facility governance team.
• Lead capacity monitoring and planning, infrastructure upgrades, and expansion initiatives to support business growth.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, security, governance team and facilities teams to align data center facility engineering with organizational goals.
• Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including power usage effectiveness (PUE), uptime, ISO 50001 targets and maintenance metrics.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including environmental, safety, and data protection standards. Document compliance within DTCC’s ISO management system.
• Lead crisis and incident response and root cause analysis for any operational disruption. RCA and Corrective actions documented within DTCC’s ISO management system.
• Travel between Brooklyn and Dallas data centers approximately 25% of the time.
• Sites shall be operated within a certified ISO 14001 and 50001 management system
• Maintain Uptime Institute’s Management & Operations Approved designation for both data centers
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
Talents Needed for Success:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in data center operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven experience managing multi-site data center operations, including large-scale (10 MW+) facilities.
• Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, critical infrastructure, and data center design.
• Strong financial acumen and understanding of P&L’s, budgets and variance analysis.
• Ability to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for multiple properties.
• Must be familiar with the use of the Microsoft suite of products (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
• Must be familiar with both owned and leased data center spaces.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as Uptime Institute Tier Standards, ASHRAE, and ISO 14001 & 50001 certifications.
