The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the rapidly growing AWS business and customers 24/7. We are committed to maintain the physical infrastructure of AWS, ensuring the standards for operational performance in the areas of safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost.

We are looking for Data Center Engineering Operations Technicians to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak performance.

Key job responsibilities
Key Job Responsibilities

• Undertake and support management of both routine maintenance and emergency service of critical systems such as switch-gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, and fire systems

• Installation of new rack capacity and provisioning of power/cooling

• On-site management of contractors and vendors, ensuring all work is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation

• Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log-taking

• Generate change management requests & incident management tickets for all facility-related events

• Assist in the resolution of infrastructure engineering and services issues

• Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

• Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and encourage a world-class safety culture

Additional Requirements

• This role involves bending, lifting 20Kgs stretching, reaching, ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely

• Must be able to work in cramped or elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines

• 24/7 shift coverage is required and includes 12-hour rotating shifts

• Due to the location of our sites, candidates should ideally possess a valid driver’s license and their own vehicle

A day in the life
At today's large-scale data centers, you will be involved in:
- Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs.
- Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service-Level Agreements (SLA)
- Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, and facility management
- Provide operational readings and key performance indicators to make sure uptime is maintained
- On-site management of contractors, subcontractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation
- Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.

Basic Qualifications


- 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Can work at heights and from ladders

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures
- Knowledge of concepts and interaction of service management systems (problem and change)
- Experience prioritizing and delivering projects on time in a fast-moving environment
- Electrical or mechanical trade certification (Cert III/IV) or relevant tertiary qualification
