As the consolidation point for all business intelligence and business analytics functions across ICBC, the Information Management team's goal is to empower the organization to drive efficiencies and savings across all facets of the business. This is achieved by delivering precise reporting, querying, statistical and descriptive insights, and performance measurements to both internal and external customers.

The Senior Data Architect will join the Information Management Corporate & DL team to provide technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of enterprise data and analytics solutions for Corporate & DL business users.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the design and evolution of enterprise data architecture, including data lakes, data warehouses, analytics platforms, and cloud-native data ecosystems.
  • Lead the evolution of data architecture standards, practices, and delivery methodologies, including the adoption of AI-assisted design, development, governance, and documentation approaches.
  • Define and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned with business and enterprise standards.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and governed data solutions.
  • Establish architecture standards, reference patterns, and best practices for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption.
  • Provide architectural leadership and oversight for cloud migration, modernization, and analytics initiatives.
  • Establish and promote data governance practices, including data quality, lineage, metadata management, stewardship, privacy, and compliance.
  • Mentor team members and foster collaboration across architecture, engineering, analytics, and business teams.

Position Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing enterprise data architectures in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Strong expertise in data modeling, including dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas), fact/dimension design, and enterprise data architecture.
  • Extensive experience with modern data platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, and cloud-based analytics solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS data and analytics services and cloud-native architecture patterns.
  • Experience leading cloud migration and modernization initiatives involving legacy data platforms and large-scale data ecosystems.
  • Extensive experience establishing architecture standards, reference architectures, governance frameworks, target-state roadmaps and reusable design patterns across multiple teams and solutions.
  • Strong SQL, analytical, and data profiling skills with the ability to analyze large and complex datasets.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage, metadata management, security, and privacy.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, Spark, and modern data engineering frameworks is considered an asset.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Kiro, Copilot, Amazon Q) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Guidewire, SAP, Oracle, Control-M, Jira, or similar enterprise platforms is considered an asset.

Work arrangement defined:

  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia. Please note there are updates to the hybrid model, starting September. This role will be moving to 2 days per week in office.
