Your Job

Koch Engineered Solutions (KES) is currently looking for a Data Architect to join our global Information Technology (IT) capability. The IT capability is a vital component of the KES strategy to improve business performance through the application of technology and to profitably transform our business. Our team operates with a startup mentality—working as an integrated group with the Engineering, Operations, Commercial, and Finance teams to design, build, and scale innovative solutions that transform KES work processes.

A Data Architect engages with KES IT and business teams to design, mature, and scale enterprise-endorsed data products that power decision-making, analytics, and AI solutions across KES business units. This role translates complex business problems into well-structured, reusable data models and governed data assets that become trusted foundations for the enterprise.

You must demonstrate the ability to balance technical rigor with business acumen—connecting data modeling decisions to business outcomes, product usability, governance, and long-term scalability. The most impactful work in this role happens at the intersection of data architecture craft, domain understanding, and practical delivery of reusable data products.

A candidate who is proactive, contribution-motivated, and passionate about building data foundations, reusable patterns, and enterprise standards will be a great fit for this opportunity.

This position can be located in our Wichita, KS, Tulsa, OK, or Houston, TX office. Visa Sponsorship is not available for this position.

What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and evolve enterprise-endorsed data products using dimensional modeling or other patterns appropriate to business use cases.
  • Translate complex business problems into reusable data models, domain structures, semantic layers, and governed data assets that enable analytics, reporting, and AI outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other Data Architects and Analytics Leaders to define, align, and promote data modeling standards, naming conventions, documentation practices, and reusable design patterns across the KES IT Data & Analytics team.
  • Partner with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, BI Developers, Product Teams, and business stakeholders to ensure data products are usable, scalable, and aligned to business priorities.
  • Facilitate alignment with stakeholders and product owners on shared business definitions, domain boundaries, metric intent, and data product expectations so endorsed data products reflect both business meaning and architectural standards.
  • Mature the KES data foundation by identifying gaps in data coverage, quality, lineage, and structure, then prioritizing improvements through an iterative, product-minded approach.
  • Support AI-ready data architecture by designing well-governed, well-documented data layers that enable model training, feature engineering, semantic understanding, and AI-assisted insights.
  • Evaluate emerging tools, architecture patterns, and delivery practices that improve how data products are built, governed, reused, and scaled across the organization.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience in data modeling, including dimensional modeling or related patterns for analytics and reporting workloads.
  • Experience writing and optimizing SQL against cloud data warehouses.
  • Proven experience communicating data architecture and technology concepts in both execution detail and broad terms to a variety of technical and business audiences.
  • Demonstrated capability partnering with customers to understand business and operating models, then translating them into coherent data models and reusable data products.
  • Experience with data transformation tools for developing and managing data transformation pipelines.
  • Demonstrated experience applying data modeling standards, documentation practices, and reusable design patterns in a team or enterprise environment.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • 3+ years of experience in data modeling, including dimensional modeling or related patterns for analytics and reporting workloads.
  • 5+ years of experience writing and optimizing SQL against cloud data warehouses.
  • Experience building data warehouse, data lake, and data engineering solutions in Snowflake.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric for data engineering, warehousing, or analytics workloads.
  • Experience with graph database technologies and relationship-oriented data modeling patterns.
  • Technical experience with serverless cloud technology tools and services (AWS: S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, etc.)
  • Exposure to data quality and observability practices
  • Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts and practices.
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies, processes, and tools such as CI/CD, GitHub, and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience designing data architecture that supports AI, including metadata management, curated semantic layers, documentation, and governed reusable data assets.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
