Data Architect

The Maine Community College System (MCCS) is looking for a full-time Data Architect. The Data Architect develops, analyzes, and maintains the enterprise software information systems of the System and member colleges. This position is primarily responsible for oversight of all MCCS administrative data systems and their related services. The position is responsible for meeting with stakeholders, analyzing business processes, developing sustainable software solutions to business problems, coordinating, testing, and deploying changes, and implementing updates / fixes to existing enterprise software information systems. This position also provides advanced technical support and training to other employees regarding System and college enterprise software information systems where appropriate, and researches and proposes improvements to enterprise application services within scope. In addition, the Data Architect contributes to the security, integrity, and reliability/operability of MCCS enterprise information systems. This position will be located at System Office in Augusta, Maine.

The Data Architect position is classified in the MEA Administrators Bargaining Unit, salary range 4. The required minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, or related technical discipline and 4 years of relevant experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

The required knowledge, skills, and abilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • A minimum of four years of experience, including focused responsibility for web based administrative systems using Microsoft SQL server databases and integrating 3rd party custom off the shelf and custom in house developed applications within an enterprise environment.
  • Experience developing or architecting performant, cost efficient, and scalable data products and solutions.
  • Experience with modern reporting and data visualization tools including PowerBI, Tableau, OData, REST APIs
  • Experience with data warehousing - bringing disparate data sources together to achieve business need.
  • Experience with on-premise and cloud database platforms including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, event & message broker architecture.
  • Knowledge of standard IT concepts, best practices, policies and procedures, particularly related to change management and configuration management and software application development.
  • Experience in optimizing and refining conceptual and logical data systems to meet strategic goals using available tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, effectively communicate regarding, and implement solutions for complex system problems with a sense of urgency.
