Job Description

Permanent Full Time

The Data Analytics Manager will lead a team of data analysts and report and dashboard developers. The mandate for the team is to analyze project portfolio information and present high value reports and dashboards to project delivery stakeholders, including project managers, resource managers, technology leaders, risk and finance teams, and delivery team members. The Data Analytics Manager will ensure the team maintains the confidence of key stakeholders by providing assessments of the quality of project delivery data, and by leading the implementation of a data quality framework to improve and maintain that quality. The Data Analytics Manager will be expected to take a leadership role in supporting strategic priorities of the Technology PMO and the Technology Strategy & Transformation Office. The ideal candidate for this role will maintain and establish current state team processes, act as a project delivery expert, build strong relationships with business partners across a variety of teams, and be effective at communicating change.

We’re looking for an individual that is an effective team leader, providing clear vision to their team for the value derived from project data, constantly looking to improve the portfolio and not afraid to explore creative problem-solving techniques. Working with TPMO leaders, the role will be responsible for managing an evolving set of dashboards and reports to improve delivery practices, business partner and customer experience, business efficiencies, and business differentiation.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and develop a team of data analysts and report/dashboard developers
  • Own and evolve TPMO reporting strategy and KPI frameworks, including completing the implementation of a data quality framework for project and resource data managed in Clarity
  • Work closely with the Clarity administration team to develop data providers, fields, controls and processes necessary to maintain a high standard of data quality in support of key reports and dashboards
  • Act as SME for Clarity (PPM), improving adoption and data quality
  • Guide design and delivery of data solutions using Power BI, SQL, Figma or other design software
  • Lead discovery discussions to understand business problems, data opportunities, and information gaps, articulating the art of the possible with data.
  • Define end-to-end data-driven solutions, including data extraction, transformation, integration, modeling, analytics, and visualization. Deliver executive dashboards and data insights using Power BI and Clarity’s report designer
  • Translate business requirements, workflows, and operating models into clear functional and technical direction for team members
  • Support the wider TPMO team: lean in where needed on strategic projects and priority work. Monitor the project portfolio, to identify/anticipate opportunities or challenges for Canada Life. Work with the Project Delivery Life Cycle team to develop delivery process changes, and with Clarity and Data Analysis colleagues to develop the tools and dashboards to support those processes.
  • Understand business and technology challenges and find opportunities for ‘out of the box’ solutions
  • Establish strong working relationships with delivery teams that enable collaboration and transparency
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues that may impair the organization’s ability to meet its strategic, financial, and technical goals
  • Coach and develop team members, providing meaningful growth opportunities, a clear vision for the future, and demonstrating how the team’s activities support Canada Life and Technology’s strategic goals

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Business, Data Analytics, Computer Science or related field
  • 8–10+ years of experience in applied data science, analytics, data strategy, or technology consulting roles with production delivery responsibility.
  • Experience in PMO / TPMO environments. Hands-on experience with Clarity (PPM) or similar tools. Strong understanding of the project management lifecycle, and agile methodologies. Experience working in agile or iterative delivery environments.
  • Experience defining data strategies, analytics roadmaps, or data-enabled service offerings.
  • Experience working with data extraction, transformation, and preparation tools (e.g., Alteryx or equivalent ETL/ELT tools).
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization, analytics, or business intelligence platforms (e.g., Power BI).
  • Experience working with diverse data platforms, data models, and structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Experience gathering and documenting requirements and guiding solutions from concept through implementation.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and align data initiatives to business objectives. Strong data storytelling, problem-solving, and process analysis skills.
  • Excellent executive-level communication skills, including the ability to convey insights and strategy through data.
  • Structured and analytical planning approach; design appropriate work-back schedules to drive effective implementation.
  • Understanding of insurance and financial services industry preferred.
