Job Description

The Data Analytics Associate uses data to design, create, and maintain analyses, reports, and research data pipelines in support of research and clinical operations within the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology-Oncology. The position supports investigators and clinical teams at the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center by building research-ready datasets, performing analyses using established analytic methods, and developing reports and visualizations. The associate applies existing AI-enabled analytical tools to improve efficiency and quality. The role fosters data-driven decision-making by providing consultative analytics support, applying established methods rather than developing novel algorithms.

Job Duties

  • Data Pipeline Development and Data Preparation (35% OF TIME)
    • Builds and maintains research-ready datasets from clinical, registry, and operational sources. Develops and maintains databases, data collection systems, and research data pipelines.
    • Supports the integration and preparation of large volumes of data. Applies existing AI-enabled tools such as code assistants and automated extraction to accelerate preparation while maintaining rigor and reproducibility.
  • Statistical Analysis and Reporting (35% OF TIME)
    • Conducts statistical analyses supporting research projects, manuscripts, quality improvement, and clinical operations, and provides ongoing reports.
    • Applies descriptive statistics and standard predictive modeling approaches. Interprets trends and patterns in complex data sets.
  • Data Visualization and Dashboards (15% OF TIME)
    • Develops dashboards, visualizations, tables, and figures that make findings accessible to non-technical audiences.
  • Documentation, Reproducibility, and Collaboration (15% OF TIME)
    • Maintains reproducible, version-controlled code and follows data governance, de-identification, and HIPAA requirements.
    • Prepares documentation including data dictionaries and codebooks. Collaborates with faculty, research staff, and clinical teams to scope requirements.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Builds and maintains research-ready datasets from clinical, registry, and operational data sources for studies within the Division of Hematology-Oncology.
  • Conducts statistical analyses supporting research projects, manuscripts, quality improvement, and clinical operations.
  • Applies existing AI-enabled analytical tools (e.g., code assistants, automated data extraction, large language models) to accelerate data preparation and analysis while maintaining rigor and reproducibility.
  • Collaborates with faculty, research staff, and clinical teams to define requirements and deliver analyses, reports, and dashboards.
  • Maintains reproducible, version-controlled code and adheres to data governance, de-identification, and HIPAA requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in data science, biostatistics, epidemiology, computer science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R and SQL, demonstrated ability to build research data pipelines and conduct statistical analyses, experience applying predictive models and data visualization, comfort using existing AI-enabled analytical tools, familiarity with clinical, EHR, or registry data, reproducible research practices including version control. Healthcare or research experience preferred.
