Job Description

Develop complex logical database designs, logical data models and relational data definitions in support of corporate and customer information systems requirements. Work closely with customers, vendors, business analysts and application development project teams to resolve information flow and content issues. Work on one or more small to medium, moderately complex projects/issues/enhancements as a team member.

  • Provide input in support of the strategic planning process and short- and long-term planning.
  • Assist in the development of data standards, policies and procedures. Work with IT teams to ensure compliance. Act as a gatekeeper for new data that do not meet the set business requirements.
  • Work with the IT teams to understand data requirements. Stay informed of the ways the organization uses its data. Gather and document the data needs of a project.
  • Populate and reference data dictionary during any development activity. Collect, analyze and summarize data to support business decisions. Ensure that the information is named properly and defined consistently across the organization. Provide data that is congruent and reliable and is easily accessible by the user. Identify opportunities for reuse of data across the enterprise. Validate data sources. Assist with management of all metadata associated with individual models. Manage the flow of information between departments.
  • Translate business requirements into conceptual, logical and physical data model. Develop and maintain the
    logical and physical data models. Work with database administrator to create physical database designs. Collaborate with team members to review data models and reporting structures for better data management and quicker access. Assist in creating a framework for representing the data elements including the entities, relationships and attributes. May recognize and resolve conflicts between models, ensuring that data models are consistent with the enterprise model (i.e., entity names, relationships and definitions). Work closely with other IT groups to use the data models throughout the whole life cycle.
  • Utilize tools to monitor and mass update data changes. Execute data profiling and preventative procedures to improve data quality. Monitor and resolve daily exception reports. Use technology to extract and analyze raw data. Escalate problems as needed. Participate in projects that require data quality testing and produces metrics and samples for further analysis. Identify opportunities and support the development of automated solutions that will enhance the quality of enterprise data. Analyze data issues and work with development teams for problem resolutions. Monitor data dictionary statistics, analyze reports of data duplicates or other errors to provide ongoing appropriate data reports. Resolve conflicts between models. Identify and provide resolution of information flow and content issues.
  • Research and resolve production problems/system abends.
  • Analyze system capabilities and business processes during the normal course of activity. Make recommendations for process improvements in order to support data integrity efforts. Test and produce metrics and samples for further analysis.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation about the data.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • One (1) year work experience and knowledge of data quality assurance, data analysis, and data modeling
    required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of one or more database management systems preferred.
  • Must have a solid understanding of logical database design principles.
  • Understand the methodologies and technologies that depict the flow of data within and between technology systems and business functions/operations.
  • Analytical thinking; accuracy and attention to detail skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members.
  • Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.
