About This Opportunity
Join the Centre for Animal Science within the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) and contribute technical and research support to collaborative genomics projects. Working alongside research and laboratory colleagues, you will help process, analyse and manage genomic data that supports purposeful research into challenges facing livestock industries in Australia and internationally. UQ’s research environment continues to advance genomic discovery, including the identification of a henipavirus in North America. Read more about this UQ genomic research.
Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Complete established bioinformatics workflows, including genotyping, SNP quality control and filtering, probe design and genotype imputation, under the supervision of senior research staff.
- Process and quality check genomic datasets using established computational pipelines, bioinformatics software and scripts.
- Prepare, organise and format genomic datasets and associated metadata for downstream research activities.
- Monitor, validate and troubleshoot pipeline outputs, maintain accurate records, and support the effective management and storage of genomic data and associated files.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to 29 January 2027 at HEW Level 4.
About You
- Completion of a diploma-level qualification with relevant work-related experience, completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience.
- Foundational knowledge of genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology or a related scientific discipline.
- An understanding of genomic data-processing workflows, including genotype calling, SNP quality control and filtering, genotype imputation, variant analysis and preparation of datasets for downstream analysis.
- Experience working with genomic or sequencing-derived datasets in a research, laboratory, bioinformatics or multidisciplinary scientific environment.
- Technical capability in using established bioinformatics workflows for SNP filtering, probe design, genotype imputation, data quality checking and genomic dataset preparation.
- Experience using command-line bioinformatics tools and scripting languages such as R, Python or Bash.
