Job Description

The Role

As a Data Analyst within our Finance Operations team at Next, you will play a crucial role in driving operational clarity and efficiency across our Third-Party (TP) Retail Operations. Reporting directly to the TP Retail Team Lead, you will be responsible for producing key operational and financial reporting, scoping and building modern Power BI solutions and delivering actionable insights around Retail Stock and Banking Operations.

This role requires a technical and business-savvy analyst who can query complex datasets using SQL and Databricks, build visualisation tools in Power BI, and effectively translate complex data trends into clear, actionable stories for stakeholders.

This is a fully office-based role and requires you to be based in Leicestershire, with attendance in the office five days a week.

What You Will Take On KPI & Performance Reporting

  • Periodic Reporting: Produce detailed KPI reports by period for each TP partner.

  • Variance Analysis: Investigate operational results that fall below target benchmarks and proactively suggest actionable improvements.

  • Stakeholder Support: Support the TP Team Lead and senior management with end-to-end analysis, attending operational calls and scoping statistical requirements.

Power BI Development & Data Solutions

  • Dashboard Migration: Scope, design and transition legacy operational reporting into Power BI, prioritising by report usage and business impact.

  • Requirement Gathering: Work closely with key finance and operational stakeholders to define core metrics and build intuitive dashboards using Finance-produced data.

  • Data Extraction & Transformation: Utilise SQL and Databricks to extract, transform, and clean large sets of operational data to ensure reporting accuracy.

Ad-Hoc Analysis & Event Support

  • Data Storytelling: Translate technical data outputs into clear, impactful insights and narratives for both technical and non-technical business partners.

  • Event Reporting: Partner with TP stakeholders to deliver tailored ad-hoc reporting during key peak events and focus periods (e.g., L to N migration reporting, BCF, and delivery performance tracking).

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work alongside other Retail Analysts to streamline working methods for major events, including Stocktake and Stock Physical Inventory (PI) cycle counts.

What You Will Bring

  • Data Querying & Processing: Strong proficiency with SQL and Databricks for querying, aggregating and manipulating large operational datasets.

  • Data Visualisation: Hands-on experience developing and maintaining dashboards in Power BI

  • Data Storytelling & Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to "tell the story" behind the data and present complex findings clearly to stakeholders.

  • Analytical Mindset: Strong problem-solving ability with a track record of investigating performance variances and recommending business improvements.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environments and coordinate with offshore/onshore partners.
