Agency OverviewWith a statewide staff of more than 800 auditors and other professionals, the Auditor of State's office is responsible for auditing all public offices in Ohio, (nearly 6,000 entities). This includes cities, counties, villages, townships and schools.
The Auditor of State’s Office (AOS) is looking for a Data Analyst 1 to join the Data and IT Audit (DITA) team. Data Analysts provide support to financial audit regions by collecting, preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial, operational, and compliance-related data used in audit engagements. AOS staff work with public entities, including state agencies, counties, townships, school districts, municipalities, and other organizations receiving public funds. We are looking for individuals with strong analytical skills and an interest in accounting, auditing, data analysis, and using technology to support audit procedures. Click here to learn more about our office!What You'll Do:· Assist higher-level data analysts in performing audit data analytics projects and activities in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards.· Collect and gather data from financial systems and prepare the data and documentation necessary for the execution of data analysis in conducting audits.· Prepare documentation for data work, including narratives describing data preparation methods and tools used.· Assist in the delivery of data and data tests of specific accounts and records.· Assist in the preparation of audit procedures and schedules.· Examine and interpret financial, operational, and compliance-related data to help automate audit tests.· Execute data scripts and queries and analyze financial data.· Review completed data results with the Data Analytics Manager or designated team leader to determine proper compliance with audit procedures and techniques adopted by the Auditor of State.· Prepare audit work that clearly provides evidence of the nature, timing, and extent of the work performed and supports the results of the audit as presented in reports and other forms of audit communications.· Perform other duties as assigned.Why work for the Auditor of State?The Auditor of State’s office is the state’s top financial watchdog. Educational and Capability Requirements:Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in data analytics, management information systems, computer science, accounting, finance, or a related discipline.-Or-Five years of experience in data analytics or a related field.Preferred Qualifications / Desired Experience:The following knowledge, skills, and experience are preferred but are not required:Demonstrated aptitude and interest in learning new programming languages, development frameworks, data tools, and technologies, orExperience using Python or another programming or scripting language for data analysis, automation, data preparation, or application development.Experience using SQL or other tools to query, transform, analyze, and validate structured data.Experience with or interest in developing web-based applications, internal business applications, dashboards, APIs, or other technology solutions.Familiarity with software development concepts, source control, testing, documentation, or deployment practices.Knowledge of local government accounting, financial reporting, or financial management systems, including systems used by counties, municipalities, townships, school districts, or other public entities.Knowledge of state government accounting, financial reporting, enterprise resource planning, or other statewide financial and administrative systems.Desired CharacteristicsYou are analytical, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively with financial, operational, and compliance-related data. You have an interest in using data and technology to support audit procedures and objectives, communicate information clearly, collaborate effectively with Data Analytics Managers and audit staff, and apply sound judgment and objectivity when performing assigned duties. Experience or education involving accounting, auditing, data analysis, or related areas is beneficial, as is familiarity with data preparation methods, audit procedures, financial data, and data scripts or queries.The AOS is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
