Reporting to the Snr Project Engineer, the Data Analyst will collaborate with business and operational leaders to provide an impact by leveraging data and analytical tools, strategic thinking, and hypothesis-based analysis. The data analyser will be responsible for continuous register data modelling complex process problems through statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. Further, they will support senior leadership by creating business insights, reports, and analyses to aid in the decision-making process.

Also responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of process optimisation and improvements which are intended to improve productivity (throughput, grade, recovery) and efficiency (safety, quality, cost, people development) of the Process Plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an in depth understanding of the various Metallurgical Processes, safely and effectively.
  • Manage and optimize process control systems.
  • Evaluate recovery and concentrate quality improvement opportunities.
  • Providing technical advice to both maintenance and operation teams, along with developing and maintaining databases, reports and monthly statistics.
  • Perform large-scale experimentation and build data-driven models to answer business questions.
  • Analysis of process behaviour, identifying slowdown, and bottlenecking based on data.
  • Develop and update mass balances, process flow and instrument diagrams.
  • Perform large-scale experimentation to identify hidden relationships between variables in large datasets of process.
  • Apply statistical analysis and visualization techniques to enrich various data products.
  • Deploy, maintain, and improve statistical/ML models in production environments.
  • Identify and record how data maps from various sources to the common data model schema.
  • Communicate data model changes and updates to relevant stakeholders and ensuring a smooth transition.
  • Generate on line dashboard according the process requirements.
  • Perform Metal Accounting duties on an ad hoc stand-in basis
  • Data Adoption and Compliance
  • Perform data-driven decision-making within the organization.
  • Monitor adoption/compliance of standards and best practices within analytics areas/functions.
  • Collaborate with ensure data quality and reliability to boost user confidence and adoption.
  • Provide support to stakeholders encountering issues or challenges in utilizing data resources effectively.
  • Data capture, cleaning, and analysis: Conducting and managing processes to clean, verify, and analyze data
  • Database maintenance: Maintaining data systems and databases
  • Ethical standards: Managing personal, public, and confidential data in accordance with ethical standards
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating large amounts of information accurately and with attention to detail
  • Report writing and presentation: Being adept at writing reports and presenting findings
  • Deadline setting and meeting: Being able to set and meet deadlines
  • Any other duties as required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical / Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a Process Related Field.
  • Candidates will ideally have a specialization in ML or AI.
  • Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a large scale processing plant
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in data science or data analytics roles.
  • Proficiency in data science and machine learning tools and languages (e.g., Python, R, Tensor Flow).
  • Knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques such as generalized linear model (GLM)/regression, random forest, etc.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with simulation and modelling software like JKSimMet or MetSIM would be an added advantage.
