Job Description

Steamboat Springs High School is seeking a Dance Showcase Sponsor to start mid September 1, 2026 through December 2026.

Dance Showcase is a student led activity open to all SSHS students. Dance Showcase is student directed, choreographed, and organized. Sponsors are responsible for overseeing logistics related to basic organization, supervision, communication, and planning, ordering and accounting. Sponsors are expected to make sure performances reflect the expectations of Steamboat Springs High School, and the Steamboat Springs School District.

PAY RANGE:
Stipend paid over the season. Entry level range is $2,506 - $3,682 DOE.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To hold a required parent/student/coach meeting at the beginning of each season. At that meeting, have written guidelines available for the parents and students that outlines your practices, attendance, participation policies and behavior expectations for your players/participants.
• Communicate effectively and regularly with the Athletic/Activities Director, student participants/team members, their parents and program coaches/sponsors so that expectations and procedures are clear.
• Provide continual updates of your team/group roster to the School Athletic/Activities Director and keep the Director fully informed of possible conflict issues within your program.
• Never allow an athlete/participant to practice or play/participate without proof of a current physical and insurance on file with the School Office and do not issue a uniform to an athlete or other participant until the athletic/activity fee has been paid.
• Follow and uphold all Steamboat Springs School District eligibility policies and procedures, maintain current CHSAA coaching registration, current first aide certification and successfully pass the CHSAA coaching test each school year.
• Always conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner and promote to the team/group members a healthy lifestyle with respect to use/abuse of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and steroids.
• Operate with the understanding and requirement that you are the supervising adult for all athletic or other activity participation at the school and will remain so from the time the team/group leaves the school until all students have been picked up by their parents upon return of the team/group.
• Take ownership for the care and security of program equipment. Follow the uniform/equipment check-out procedures and account for all student use and collection of, inventory of and proper storage of all uniforms/equipment within two weeks of the end of the season.
• Hold an end-of-season awards ceremony to recognize the hard work of the students such as lettering, league and state awards and special accomplishments. Also, use the occasion as a way of thanking your other coaches/sponsors and parents for their assistance during the season/activity period.
• Represent and advocate for Steamboat Springs School District schools and your sport/activity by attending appropriate league, regional and state meetings, as well as clinics and professional development opportunities.

SPONSOR GUIDELINES
In an effort to continue to ensure we provide adequate levels of supervision, the following guidelines must be followed:
1. Students must be supervised at all times.
2. Supervision ratios of 25 : 1 should not be exceeded.
3. The use of parent volunteers must be approved by the Activities Director/Principal. Those parents who supervise participants or provide supervision on overnight events must have background checks prior to working with students.
4. Activities vary greatly in supervision requirements. The Sponsor should work with the Activities Director/Principal to ensure adequate supervision is provided.
5. Parent volunteers may supervise students, but the activity sponsor needs needs to be on site and readily available.
6. At no time should parent volunteers be in a sole supervisory role. The Sponsor needs to be on site and readily available. This includes all components of a given activity i.e., practice, rehearsals, events, contests, hotels, transportation, restaurants, fundraisers, etc.
7. It is the Sponsor's responsibility to meet, check-in, and communicate with parent volunteers on a regular basis. This should occur after each event, practice, etc., or more often as needed. If the Sponsor becomes aware of any issues they will follow up with administration, parents, etc. If an emergency arises, the sponsor will follow Emergency Action Plans, as well as assume mandatory reporter responsibilities.
8. The Sponsor should be proactive in teaching appropriate behavior expectations before, during, and after practices and performances. This includes behavior expectations for all school sponsored trips.
9. Sponsors should work with parent volunteers to make sure they understand their role and responsibility as determined by the Sponsor, Activities Director/Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of activity or sport providing leadership to
• Ability to maintain discipline with large groups of students
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, staff, co-workers, administrators and parents.
• Physically able to perform the following on a daily basis:
• Ability to lift items weighing 50 pounds from floor level to an elevation of four feet
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, withstand frequent pushing, pulling, squatting, and reaching
• Ability to withstand exposure to the outdoor elements including extreme cold, extreme heat, rain, snow and other mountain climatic conditions
• Possess sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform responsibilities as described
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

An incorrect decision made by this position could impact the district legally causing financial condition of district to be effected. Errors made in decision-making could potentially result in substantial cost to the District or damage the credibility of the District.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and Board of Education.

Mathematical Skills: ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.

Technology Skills: Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spread sheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.

Other Skills And Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
