Summary

John Chavis Memorial Park is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Dance Instructor to bring the joy of movement and music to children ages 3–5. The instructor will develop and lead fun, age-appropriate lessons introducing young dancers to foundational ballet, tap, jazz, and Hip Hop techniques. The ideal instructor will create an encouraging and energetic environment where children can build confidence, coordination, and a love of dance while adapting activities to meet the needs and skill levels of each participant.

Examples of duties

  • Develop and lead age-appropriate dance lesson plans and activities.
  • Teach foundational ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop techniques.
  • Create a fun, positive, and encouraging environment for children.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and recreation staff.
  • Adapt instruction and activities based on participant needs and abilities.
  • Set up and maintain the dance space before and after class.
  • Evaluate classes and make adjustments to improve instruction.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; experience in dance instruction, recreation, childcare, or related field, with knowledge of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop or related dance disciplines preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate young children.
  • Dependable, patient, energetic, and enthusiastic.

Positions in this class typically require balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Physical Requirements:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity:

The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
