This position is an integral resource for MidAmerican Energy’s Damage Prevention Program, designed to measure and lessen damages to MidAmerican’s gas facilities. This position is visual to the public and will carry out activities to support and promote the damage prevention program.
This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
Performs audits of utility locating contractors or MEC locators to ensure tickets are completed within applicable state one call laws, marking standards, accuracy and documentation including proper standby notification. Knowledge of utility locating best practices, proper standby process, excavation best practices and applicable state one call laws. Performs analysis of locates in areas of high locate volumes and identified heavy hitter contractors for site visits and/or communication to the excavators of protective measures which must be taken during excavation, boring, trenching or horizontal directional drilling to prevent accidental damage to MEC gas facilities. Provides excavation best practice training to identified excavators and other parties. Performs standby activities to assure proper action is taken to expose and provide protection to MEC facilities. Investigates and makes recommendations on tools and materials for locating and damage prevention. Subject to overtime, emergency call–in, and outdoor work in all types of weather. Performs claim recovery duties as necessary. Provides support to claims analysts in recovering damage costs as requested or assigned. Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Damage Prevention Tech 2: Two or more years of gas or other utility operations, construction, excavation or locating experience.
Damage Prevention Tech 1: High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of excavation equipment, damage prevention standards, state and federal damage prevention regulations, and state one call laws. Knowledge of safety and construction work practices, including a working knowledge of gas operations and safety when working in and around excavations. Strong time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects with multiple internal and external clients. Effective oral and written communication skills with a strong focus on customer service. Strong technical computer skills, including understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
