Job Title: Dam Design Specialist (National Expert)

About the Project

The Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) is a Government of India initiative supported by the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The project aims to strengthen dam safety, improve the performance and resilience of existing dams, and enhance institutional capacity for dam safety management across participating states and central agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in the planning, design, and detailed engineering of dams and associated appurtenant structures.

  • Review and prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering designs for dam rehabilitation and new dam components.

  • Review hydraulic, structural, geotechnical, and stability analyses for dam structures.

  • Evaluate design drawings, calculations, technical specifications, and engineering reports.

  • Recommend design improvements to enhance dam safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable BIS Codes, CWC guidelines, the Dam Safety Act, and international best practices.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, project authorities, consultants, and contractors during design review and implementation.

  • Provide technical support during construction by reviewing design modifications and resolving engineering issues.

  • Participate in technical review meetings and provide expert recommendations on dam design-related matters.

  • Prepare and review technical reports, design manuals, and engineering documentation.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.

  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or an equivalent discipline (Mandatory).

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience in the planning, design, and detailed engineering of dams and their appurtenant structures.

  • Demonstrated experience in:

    • Planning and detailed engineering of large dam projects.

    • Structural and hydraulic design of dams and associated structures.

    • Preparation and review of engineering drawings, design calculations, and technical specifications.

    • Design review and optimization for dam rehabilitation and modernization projects.

    • Coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the design lifecycle.

  • Must have worked on at least five (5) large dam projects

  • Experience in World Bank, AIIB, ADB, or other externally funded infrastructure projects will be an added advantage.

Desired Skills

  • Strong knowledge of dam engineering principles, structural analysis, hydraulic design, and water resources engineering.

  • Thorough understanding of BIS Codes, CWC guidelines, and the Dam Safety Act.

  • Proficiency in engineering design software and analysis tools relevant to dam engineering.

  • Excellent technical report writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and engineering documentation.

Preferred Industry: Water Resources / Dams / Hydropower / Irrigation Infrastructure
