Dam Design Expert (International Expert)

Experience: Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in planning, design, and engineering of dams and associated hydraulic structures.

We are seeking an experienced Dam Design Expert (International Expert) to provide technical leadership in the planning, design, review, and optimization of dam and water resources infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in structural and hydraulic design of dams and appurtenant structures, ensuring compliance with international engineering standards, safety requirements, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, engineering design, and technical review of new dam projects and rehabilitation of existing dams.
  • Prepare and review conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering designs for dams and associated appurtenant structures.
  • Develop and review hydraulic, structural, and geotechnical design parameters for dam infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable national and international design codes, engineering standards, and dam safety guidelines.
  • Review design calculations, technical drawings, specifications, and engineering reports prepared by consultants and contractors.
  • Provide technical guidance on spillways, intake structures, outlet works, energy dissipation structures, diversion systems, and other appurtenant works.
  • Evaluate design alternatives to optimize safety, constructability, cost-effectiveness, and long-term performance.
  • Support multidisciplinary teams during design review, construction planning, and implementation phases.
  • Identify engineering risks and recommend mitigation measures to enhance dam safety and structural integrity.
  • Prepare technical reports, design review comments, recommendations, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders to facilitate successful project delivery.
  • Contribute to technical capacity building, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and preparation of engineering guidelines and manuals.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate Degree (Master's or higher) in Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or a related discipline.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience in planning, design, and engineering of dams and associated hydraulic structures.
  • Proven experience in the structural and hydraulic design of concrete, earthfill, rockfill, or composite dams.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design of appurtenant structures such as spillways, outlet works, intake structures, diversion tunnels, and energy dissipation systems.
  • Experience in the planning, design review, and engineering evaluation of large dam projects.
  • Proven involvement in at least five (5) large dam projects
  • Strong knowledge of international dam engineering standards, design methodologies, and dam safety principles.
  • Proficiency in engineering analysis, design software, and preparation of technical specifications and design documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, technical report writing, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.

Preferred Criteria

  • Experience working on internationally funded dam or water resources infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with international standards and guidelines such as ICOLD, USACE, FEMA, or other recognized dam engineering practices.
  • Experience in dam rehabilitation, safety assessments, and design optimization will be an added advantage.
  • Membership in recognized professional engineering institutions or international dam engineering organizations is desirable.
