Job Description

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is a Christian organisation using light aircraft to deliver help, hope and healing in 24 developing countries. For over 75 years, MAF has been transporting patients, relief workers, produce and medical supplies to the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline.

Liberia is a country located on the Atlantic coast in West Africa and shares a border with three neighbouring countries. Over the past 30 years, Liberia has suffered from civil war, disease, corruption and poverty. The annual six-month wet season disables the few roads which exist and means that those who live here struggle to gain access to some of the services we take for granted. A two-hour flight for one of our partners can save two to three days’ journey overland in the dry season and provide accessibility in the wet season

To enable MAF to carry out this critical work, we are in urgent need of Primary School teachers to be seconded to Dakar Liberia Co-op. The co-op opened in August 2022 and is a small but growing mission school that strives to provide high quality, international education in a loving Christian environment. The school primarily serves the children of families in the capitol city of Monrovia working with MAF, SIM and Samaritan’s Purse. Without this school, MAF pilots, engineers and managers with young families would be unable to commit to working in Liberia.

Responsibilities

Please note: all positions at this school are currently filled, however, you can still register your interest in the role for future positions. As a teacher at Dakar Liberia Co-op, you will plan and prepare lessons based on an international curriculum currently derived from North American curriculum, but modified for our context.

You will teach in multi-grade level classrooms, establishing a calm, purposeful and respectful learning environment. Lessons will meet the strengths and needs of each individual and use pedagogical approaches to engage children and support them in their learning. You will assess regularly and plan appropriately for next steps, reporting clearly to parents. You will contribute to the Christian community of the school, committing to the spiritual development of children.

Full participation in all aspects of the life of the school is part of this exciting and essential role.

Your role requires:

  • creativity when working with limited resources.
  • flexibility as you adapt to the changing needs of the school community
  • an ability to adjust to living in another culture and working in a cross-cultural team environment
  • a positive, resilient attitude towards challenge and change

Other duties include safeguarding, supervision, the establishment of excellent working relationships with parents and families and a commitment to professional development and staff training.

Mission Aviation Fellowship

About Mission Aviation Fellowship

Mission Aviation Fellowship was founded in 1945 by a group of WWII pilots who had a vision for how aviation could be used to help spread the Gospel.

Since those early days, we have been an indispensable partner and servant to some 500 Christian organizations, humanitarian agencies, and more. We enable and maximize evangelism and church nurturing, medical assistance, disaster response, and community development, as well as the training and development of indigenous people.

Using aviation, we desire to see isolated people changed by the love of Christ by serving together to bring help, hope, and healing. We meet the physical and spiritual needs of isolated people in 42 countries throughout Asia, Africa, Eurasia and Latin America, operating a fleet of 47 light aircraft. Dedicated missionary families raise their own ministry support to serve as the hands and feet of Christ to those in need.
