Job Description

Weston Public Schools Substitute Paraeducator � Per Diem

Starting Date: Immediate
Salary: $16.94 per hour

Substitute paraeducators play a vital role in supporting students and maintaining continuity in the classroom or other learning environments when regular staff are absent. Whether serving on a daily or long-term basis, substitutes assist with instruction, supervision, and student engagement, ensuring a safe, supportive, and productive school environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with learning activities, reinforcing instruction provided by the classroom teacher.
  • Support students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
  • Provide individualized or small-group support as directed by classroom teachers or special education staff.
  • Assist with classroom management and help maintain a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Monitor and support student safety and adherence to school policies.
  • Uphold computer technology acceptable-use policies.
  • Follow building procedures and schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and support staff regarding student progress and any relevant observations.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or support setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the academic, social, and personal growth of students.
  • Flexibility in work assignments and willingness to support the safe and effective operation of the school.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Preference given to candidates who are available at least one full day per week and can commit to full-day assignments.

ABOUT THE WESTON PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

There are five schools in the Weston Public Schools: Weston High School (grades 9-12); Weston Middle School (grades 6-8); Field School (grades 4-5); and Country School and Woodland Schools (both preK-grade 3). Since 1999, we have had an integrated pre-school with classrooms at Woodland and Country Schools to educate children with special needs from the age of three. Since 1967, Weston has participated in the METCO program.

Total School Enrollment (Grades K-12) as of October 2017 is 2,104 students.
