The Cytotechnologist prepares and presents cytology courses to CT students and pathology residents. Evaluates cytology smears (e.g., Gyn, non-Gyn, FNA), consults for abnormalities and prepares preliminary reports for the pathologist following standard operating procedures for patient specimens, proficiency samples and quality control. Assists clinicians in the collection, preparation and preliminary impressions of Fine Needle Aspiration samples. Performs equipment troubleshooting. Serves as a technical resource and preceptor/mentor. Evaluates new equipment and procedures and prepares standard operating procedures. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree. MS/SCT (ASCP) preferred. Minimum one year in clinical laboratory as licensed CT required, preferably in a computerized clinical laboratory.
Licensures and Certifications: California Cytotechnologist (CT) and CT(ASCP) required.
Knowledge and Skills: Possesses excellent dexterity and analytic skills. Ability to operate technical instruments and equipment, input data and type. Ability to use available resource material independently to resolve and document challenges constructively. Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position.
