CYENS Centre of Excellence invites highly skilled professionals, including Cypriots abroad considering a return home — to join a leading research and innovation hub in Interactive Media, Smart Systems, and Emerging Technologies.
As a joint initiative of Cyprus’s three public universities, the Municipality of Nicosia, Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Germany), and University College London (UK), CYENS offers a truly international research environment, based in Cyprus.

- Visual Sciences
Virtual & Augmented Reality, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Imaging & Multimedia.
- Bio-Scent: Biometrics for Smart Human-centred Emerging Technologies
- DeepCamera: Next generation of the image/video processing pipeline, of computer vision applications and the use of deep-learning for deploying smarter digital cameras.
- Visual Computing Group (VCG): Understanding real environments of increasing complexity, thus bridging the gap between virtual and physical worlds. The VCG focuses on two key aspects of the scene understanding problem.
- Health XR Smart, Ubiquitous and Participatory Technologies for Healthcare Innovation. Developing innovative digital health solutions using immersive technologies like VR and AR to empower individuals and transform healthcare delivery.
- PULSEBreathing life to virtual worlds
- Visual Media Technologies Co-Lab (VMC): The Visual Media Technologies Co-Lab (VMC2) Research Lab belongs to the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology, and the CYENS CoE. The lab focuses on developing novel and applied techniques driven by the need to improve the life quality of humans.
- Human Factors & Design
Human-centred technologies and immersive systems.
- Extended Experiences (EX): Interdisciplinary research group exploring the future of human-AI interaction through Extended Reality. (Extended Reality, Advanced Interaction, Physiological Interfaces).
- SuPerWorld: Pervasive Real-World Computing for Sustainability. Integrates sensing infrastructures, remote sensing, and AI-driven analytics to promote environmental sustainability and resilience.
- ITICA & Museum Lab (ITICA) Immersive Technologies for Intelligent and Creative Application and Museum Lab. Interdisciplinary research at the intersection of immersive technologies and cultural innovation. Combining strengths in XR, digital heritage, and museum studies, the group designs inclusive, multisensory experiences that bridge science, the arts, and society.
- Neo-Move: Neurocognitive Management of Occupational Movement Disorders. Focused on developing and validating tools for the prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of work-related movement disorders.
- EdMedia: Design, development, and evaluation of innovative learning environments.
- Communications & AI
AI-driven communication systems and intelligent networks.
- VIDEOMICS:Innovates at the intersection of healthcare and video technologies. Digital health on medical imaging and video technologies, including computer vision.
- CAIR: Cognitive Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Research on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics with a focus on developing software agents and robots.
- Smart Network Systems (SNS): Research focuses on Computer Networks, Protocols for IoT and Multimedia Communications, 5G/6G Technologies, Security, Edge/Fog and Mobile Cloud Computing, and Smart City Applications.
Your profile
Profile
We are seeking highly skilled candidates with:
- Degree in a relevant scientific field (BSc, MSc, or PhD).
- Strong technical and analytical skills (e.g., programming, data analysis, XR tools).
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Curiosity, creativity, and motivation to work across disciplines.
- Prior research, innovation, or industry experience is a plus.
