We are seeking a We are seeking a proactive Cyclic Leading Hand to lead a small team delivering cyclic and first response maintenance on the state highway network for the IDC contract with NZTA in the Manawatu-Whanganui region.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
As our Cyclic Leading Hand, you’ll coordinate and inspire a dedicated team responsible for both routine and cyclic maintenance as well as reactive tasks. Working across a 24-hour roster, this small team operates on a rotating shift basis to respond quickly to incidents and urgent issues on the network. As the immediate first responders, your crew will ensure public safety in any situation, then develop plans for longer-term solutions where required.
Your leadership will play a vital role in keeping our roads, footpaths, and public spaces safe and well-maintained for the community. Day-to-day tasks may include road sign and EMP maintenance and replacements, pothole fixes, upkeep of minor barriers, detritus removal, litter, and other varied maintenance activities, providing plenty of variety in your work

Monitor and work alongside your small team to ensure they are working efficiently and effectively through each maintenance job
Coordinate resources, equipment and materials for planned and reactive maintenance tasks
Inspect and assess the immediate area for safety risks and hazards to public and community
Work at pace to ensure work is completed on time, whilst complying with all safety, quality and environmental requirements
Complete daily reports and relevant documents
Maintain workspace cleanliness after servicing and ensure tools and materials are stored safely including disposal of debris and rubbish
Attend emergency call outs on a rostered basis and during standard hours of duty which can include both day and night shifts

Must hold a minimum Class 2 Full Licence
WTR Endorsement
STMS Qualification is preferred
Have a minimum of 2 years' experience in RFS or cyclic maintenance or similar
Be flexible to work AM and PM shifts up to 10 - 12 hours and weekends as required on rostered basis
Ability to read and interpret works schedules and compliance standards
Previous experience in a similar Leading Hand or Team Leader role is advantageous
