As a Cybersecurity Intern at the MCMC BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Cyberjaya, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between theory and practice. Your primary focus will be supporting the technology that we use at the center and will include tasks such as the development of technical training labs and maintaining our Security Operations Center (SOC) simulator to provide students with a realistic, high-impact learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Lab Development: Design, configure, and test virtualized laboratory environments using tools like Proxmox, VMware, or VirtualBox.
  • SOC Simulator Support: Help maintain the SOC simulator by updating threat scenarios, creating mock alerts, and ensuring the stability of SIEM tools like Splunk and Wazuh
  • Teaching Assistance: Support instructors during live sessions by troubleshooting student technical issues and explaining core concepts like the CIA Triad or incident response lifecycles.
  • Content Creation: Assist in documenting lab guides, creating step-by-step walkthroughs, and developing assessment rubrics for students.
  • Threat Research: Research emerging threats and vulnerabilities to ensure training labs reflect current real-world attack vectors.
  • Managing our Cyber Escape Room: Help us maintain our one-of-a-kind Cybersecurity escape room, aiding in creation of creative and engaging ways to teach cybersecurity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Academic Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Electric & Electronic Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Core Fundamentals: Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and common security protocols.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to simplify complex technical topics for students.

Preferred Skills (either one):

  • Scripting: Experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell for lab automation.
  • Cloud Knowledge: Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud security fundamentals.
  • Competitive Experience: Participation in CTF (Capture The Flag) competitions or similar hacking labs.
  • Web, database, or back-end development experience.
  • Electrical or mechanical engineering experience.
  • Familiar with security tools such as Nmap, Wireshark, Kali Linux, or Metasploit.
