Job Description
The Cybersecurity Architect is responsible for the technical implementation, integration, and optimization of PRPA’s cybersecurity infrastructure, firewalls, and vulnerability management systems. This role ensures that security technologies are effectively deployed, tuned, and maintained to support both operational resilience and strategic goals. The Cybersecurity Architect supports incident response, prepare for investigations, and looks for cyber threats. This role works with IT and Digital Business teams to make sure security controls are set up properly. The position also gives technical support for audits and compliance, helping PRPA stay ready for regulations and improve its cybersecurity program.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Design, deploy, and maintain cybersecurity technologies including SIEM, SOAR, EDR, firewalls, and vulnerability management systems.
- Tune detection rules and automate response workflows to improve threat detection and reduce manual effort.
- Support incident investigations, forensic readiness, and threat hunting activities.
- Collaborate with IT and Digital Business teams to integrate and optimize security controls.
- Support audits, assessments, and compliance reporting by providing technical input and insights
- Monitor and optimize the effectiveness of security infrastructure.
- Assist in developing and maintaining cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging cybersecurity trends, threats, and solutions to senior IT Leadership
- Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
- Complete assignments on behalf of the Manager, Cybersecurity, and others, as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regular working hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with 1 hour lunch break.
- May be required to be on call after office hours and on a rotating or periodic basis to support incident response or urgent cybersecurity matters.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Formal Education & Certifications
- College or University Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, Cybersecurity, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Certifications such as Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+), or equivalent recognized cybersecurity certifications will be considered an asset.
- ITIL 4 Foundation) or similar process management certification will be considered an asset.
Related Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in cybersecurity Architecting, information security, or a related field.
- Experience with SIEM, SOAR, EDR, firewalls, and vulnerability management systems
Other Requirements
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, ISO, or COBIT.
- Proficient in cybersecurity tools and technologies. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong judgment and tact in dealing with sensitive issues and confidential information.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while managing multiple tasks, priorities, and tight deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and requirements.
- Possesses a continual growth mindset and actively stays up to date on new and emerging trends and technologies.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain cyber security concepts to non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization.
- Strong customer service orientation; self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to provide support to others within the department.
- Commitment to the values, mission, and mandate of the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
- Open-minded regarding improvements and suggestions.
- Able to obtain security clearance under Transport Canada’s Security Clearance Program.
The base salary range for this role is $105,820.00 to $132,274.00
