Job Description

Permanent Full Time

The Cyber Threat Intelligence Specialist is a critical role reporting to the Manager of Cyber Threat Intelligence within our Global Security Operations Centre (GSOC). In support of Great West’s global security operations, the Specialist is responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing cyber threat intelligence (CTI), and providing in-depth analysis of threat actors’ tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), as well as indicators of compromise (IOCs).

You will be part of a CTI team responsible for delivering a variety of intelligence products, including threat and vulnerability intelligence, threat hunt briefings and reports, and OSINT investigative services. This role requires authoring and presenting operational and strategic CTI products to audiences at all levels, as well as providing actionable intelligence and recommendations to help align security strategy. The Specialist will also serve as a mentor, offering guidance and expertise to colleagues across the organization.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and deliver cyber threat intelligence (CTI) reporting and analysis capabilities.
  • Collect, process, and analyze tactical and operational threat intelligence.
  • Manage and maintain the Threat Intelligence Platform (TIP), including IOC lifecycle management.
  • Create, review, and approve indicators of compromise (IOCs) for ingestion into the TIP.
  • Produce intelligence products, including threat advisories, alerts, and reports to enhance threat context and relevance.
  • Develop and deliver threat briefings and situational awareness materials for operational and tactical teams.
  • Provide direct analytical support to security operations and incident response teams, adding threat context to active investigations.
  • Partner with internal and external CTI stakeholders to ensure intelligence quality, fidelity, and appropriate distribution.
  • Support threat hunting by developing hypotheses, enhancing detection capabilities, and identifying potential threats across the environment.
  • Establish and maintain threat communication processes for internal and external audiences.
  • Identify gaps in CTI capabilities and recommend improvements through data analysis and research.
  • Act as a CTI subject matter expert (SME), contributing to projects, mentoring team members, and promoting knowledge sharing.

What you will bring

  • Degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Cyber Security, Digital Forensics), relevant certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in one or more security domains, with a solid understanding of cyber threat intelligence principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess data and provide actionable recommendations to reduce security risk and incident impact.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage sustained, high-stress situations.
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website.

Specialized Knowledge

  • Familiarity with cyber threat intelligence frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK®, the Lockheed Martin Cyber Kill Chain®, and/or the Diamond Model.
  • Knowledge of the cyber threat landscape, including threat actors, advanced persistent threats (APTs), indicators of compromise (IOCs), and tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Understanding of security technologies, including IDS/IPS, firewalls, WAFs, SIEMs, VPNs, and endpoint and network security controls.
  • Knowledge of incident response processes, methodologies, and handling techniques.
  • Familiarity with open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools and techniques for research and analysis.
  • Understanding of threat intelligence sharing ecosystems and organizations (e.g., FS-ISAC, CCCS, CCTX).
  • Ability to apply threat intelligence concepts - such as adversary motivation, capability, and intent - to organizational risk and threat profiles.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to approach problems creatively.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise intelligence products tailored to both technical and executive audiences.
