About us

At the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), we are dedicated to carrying out meaningful work that drives improvements and elevates student achievement across NSW, now and into the future.

We accomplish this by supporting all school sectors with high-quality syllabuses, assessment (including managing the HSC and NAPLAN), teaching standards (e.g., accrediting teachers) and school environments (including setting and monitoring school standards).

NESA is a unique organisation in NSW (of around 740FTE staff) with significant state-wide impact, visit our website to learn more about the important work we do.

About the role

Join NESA's ICT team and play a critical role in protecting the systems, information and services that support education across New South Wales. As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will contribute to the ongoing maturity of NESA's cyber security program through security assurance activities, incident management, risk monitoring and the development of information security policies and practices.

This is an exciting opportunity for a cyber security professional who enjoys combining technical analysis with governance, assurance and policy work. You'll work across the organisation and with external partners to strengthen NESA's cyber security posture, influence security practices, and help ensure information assets remain secure, resilient and compliant.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and supporting cyber security assurance activities to strengthen security controls, compliance and organisational resilience.
  • Monitoring, analysing and researching cyber security threats, vulnerabilities and emerging risks across the organisation.
  • Conducting security reviews and audits to assess compliance with security standards, policies and frameworks.
  • Investigating and reporting cyber security risks, incidents, vulnerabilities and potential breaches, while coordinating remediation activities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with managed service providers, vendors and business stakeholders to monitor security trends, identify vulnerabilities and improve security controls.
  • Providing cyber security advice, guidance and awareness initiatives that support a strong security culture across the organisation.
  • Developing, reviewing and maintaining information security policies, procedures and related governance documentation.
  • Supporting the ongoing management and maturity of NESA's cyber security program, information assets and security assessment processes.

Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • Experience coordinating security assurance, audit, compliance or governance activities within a cyber security environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing or implementing cyber security policies, standards, procedures or related governance documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify, assess and communicate cyber security risks, vulnerabilities and remediation strategies.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and delivering quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment with changing demands.
  • The ability to build productive relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders and communicate complex security concepts in a clear and practical way.
  • A commitment to maintaining contemporary knowledge of cyber security threats, technologies, frameworks and industry practices.
  • Experience in working with Monitoring and detection tools, SIEM, and application whitelisting.

Essential requirements

  • Experience in an information technology role preferably working in a cyber-security environment.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management, malware, network analysis, security tools, ISO27001, Essential 8, and NSW Cyber Security Policy.

Note: A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance for paid employment is required before commencing in this role. It is not required at the application stage. The cost of the WWCC clearance is the responsibility of the successful applicant.
