About the program
AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

Basic Qualifications

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Cyber Operations Analyst to support a Cyber Operations capability supporting sensitive and mission-critical ICT environments.
Working alongside the Cyber Operations Lead, you will contribute to the development of security processes, monitoring activities, operational procedures and security reviews that help protect critical ICT environments.

About the Role
As a Cyber Operations Analyst, you will support cyber security operations across Program ICT environments while assisting with the development of operational security practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
You will work closely with infrastructure, engineering and security teams to identify risks, support remediation activities and improve the organisation's overall security posture.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support cyber security monitoring and operational security activities.
  • Assist with vulnerability management, security reviews and remediation tracking.
  • Review system configurations and operational practices against approved standards and procedures.
  • Support the development and maintenance of cyber security policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Assist with security assessments and assurance activities across ICT environments.
  • Contribute to security reporting, metrics and operational dashboards.
  • Support incident investigation and response activities as required.
  • Work with technical teams to identify and address security weaknesses.
  • Assist with maintaining security documentation and compliance artefacts.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Cyber Operations function.

You'll Have Experience In Some of the Following Areas

  • Cyber Security, ICT Security, Systems Administration, Service Delivery or Infrastructure Support.
  • Microsoft and/or Linux operating environments.
  • Networking fundamentals and infrastructure technologies.
  • Security monitoring, logging or incident response activities.
  • Vulnerability management or system hardening practices.
  • Developing or maintaining technical documentation and procedures.
  • Working with stakeholders to resolve technical issues and improve security outcomes.


Highly Regarded

  • Experience within Defence, Government or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to classified or sensitive ICT systems.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Familiarity with SIEM, vulnerability management or security monitoring tools.
  • Relevant certifications such as Security+, SSCP, Azure Security, Microsoft Security or equivalent.
