Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for a friendly and organised Customer Services Officer to join our team in Fairlie and help provide a great experience for our ratepayers, residents and visitors.

As one of the first points of contact for Mackenzie District Council, you’ll help people with a wide range of enquiries and Council services. This could be anything from rates and property enquiries through to dog registrations, facility bookings, payments and general customer requests.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. Alongside providing great customer service, you’ll undertake a range of administrative tasks and work closely with teams across Council to make sure our customers get the information and support they need.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide friendly, professional and empathetic service to ratepayers, residents, visitors and members of the public.

  • Respond to customer enquiries and requests, ensuring information is recorded accurately and customers are kept informed.

  • Assist with a range of Council services including LIM compilation, cemetery burials, property file requests, rating enquiries, dog registrations, customer requests and facility bookings.

  • Process account payments and cash handling, including accurate receipting and balancing.

  • Complete general administrative duties and maintain accurate information within Council systems.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide high-quality customer service and administrative support across the organisation.

About You

You’ll be someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in providing great customer service. You’ll be comfortable dealing with a wide range of people and enquiries and know how to communicate clearly and professionally, including when a situation might require a little extra patience or understanding.

You’ll also be organised, accurate and able to juggle different priorities throughout the day. While you’ll be part of a supportive team, you’ll be equally comfortable taking ownership of your work and getting on with things independently.

Ideally, you will have:

  • 2+ years’ experience working in a front-facing customer service role; and 2+ year’s demonstrated administrative experience.

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Experience using databases and electronic document management systems would be advantageous.

  • Concise written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to work well both within a team and autonomously, including working well under pressure.

  • Familiarity or knowledge of working with Local Government authorities would also be advantageous.

What We Can Offer You

  • A competitive salary to be discussed with the successful candidate

  • Annual salary review and regular performance reviews

  • A range of staff benefits including health insurance, professional memberships, and a range of retail discounts including discounted fuel

  • A supportive team and manager that values both autonomy and teamwork to achieve a shared vision
