OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Review documentation to ensure customers are qualified to request vital records (birth and death certificates) while maintaining security and confidentiality.
  • Maintain and monitor various records and reports on customer assistance including state mandated electronic systems.
  • Distribute information to the public on vital records, request statutory requirements.
  • Collect and balance daily revenue from the sale of vital records, receipts, or fees.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve standard customer problems and inquiries by various forms of communication i.e. phone, email, in person, etc.
  • Review order requests for vital records into the Houston Health Department and State vital records system.
  • Accurate processing of orders and certified record printing to ensure the correct issuance of vital records.


PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a monitor.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Two (2) years of Administrative or customer service-related experience are required.

Substitution: An Associate’s degree may be substituted for up to two years of the experience requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
None.

Qualifications

  • Selected candidate must pass the Texas Department of State Health Services required background check
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
