Founded in 1936, Stinker is a family-owned convenience retailer serving communities throughout Idaho, Colorado, and Wyoming.
We got our name in a fight. In 1936, a 20-year-old named Farris Lind opened a service station in Twin Falls and started selling gasoline for less than the major oil companies thought he should. They didn’t take it well. When one of them told a newspaper that Farris Lind was a real stinker, he took it as a compliment, put the word on his stations, and drew a skunk wearing red boxing gloves, Polecat Pete.
The gloves came first, and they were never a joke. Farris spent his career punching above his weight on behalf of the guest, and a small Idaho company that refused to be pushed around had to be willing to fight for what it believed in. Ninety years later, that spirit is still part of who we are. We fight for our employees. We fight for our guests.
Our purpose is simple:
To make our world a better place by being a bright spot in the lives we touch, one employee, one guest, and one community at a time.
We still know how to have fun, our mascot is a skunk, after all. But take a close look at Pete: he’s got his gloves on.

The largest expansion yet, was the purchase of Bradley Petroleum in Colorado and Wyoming in 2017. This expansion allowed Stinker to serve customers in three western states through more than 110 locations. Recently, Stinker expanded there Wyoming operations with the acquisition of Kaspar Oil in Rawlins. Through this purchase Stinker grew their footprint adding four more c-stores, a truck stop restaurant, and a wholesale and lubes business. Also part of the Stinker family is Arrowrock Supply, a warehouse distribution center, and Westpoint Transportation, a fuel transportation company.
Stinker Stores is fully committed to delivering the absolute best customer experience with each interaction. Thinking of the customer first, we are always looking for ways to create the best possible experience from the time a customer enters the property to the time they complete their visit.
Stinker Stores and its employees support a number of causes and enjoy giving back to our communities. Charley Jones, Owner and CEO was recently honored as one of Idaho’s CEO’s of influence for his success in business combined with the company culture and community focus that he weaves into Stinker Stores.
Like it’s name, Stinker Stores is a fun place to work and shop. Many Stinker Stores employees have more than 10 years of service with others having in excess of 30 years. With a work hard, play hard philosophy, Stinker Stores is a fun and rewarding place to work – more than that however, it’s a family. It’s no wonder that when asked, employees often say they wouldn’t think of working anywhere else.
