He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We have two openings within our Visitor Experience and Engagement for a:

  • Full-Time Customer Service Assistant
    This role will operate from Tuesday to Saturday 40 hours per week
  • Part-Time Customer Service Assistant
    This role will operate from Tuesday and Wednesday 16 hours per week

As a Customer Service Assistant, you’ll warmly welcome visitors to the Zoo and help deliver an exceptional experience from arrival through to departure. The role spans our six key service areas — Cashiers, Information Centre, Retail Shop, Gate, Concierge, and Membership Hub — supporting ticket and membership sales, visitor enquiries, queue management, retail operations, and hire items. You’ll also contribute to delivering engaging visitor experiences, including birthday parties, Tamariki Time sessions, and Te Wao Nui tours. Alongside promoting conservation messages, maintaining clean and welcoming spaces, and working collaboratively as part of a supportive team, you’ll engage respectfully with visitors, including the use of simple Te Reo Māori, while remaining flexible and ready to support across all operational areas as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Customer Service Excellence – Well-presented with proven experience delivering outstanding service and creating welcoming, positive visitor interactions.
  • Retail & Operational Capability – Experience in retail, hospitality, or customer-facing environments, including POS systems and promoting products and events.
  • Organisation & Attention to Detail – Strong accuracy, time management, and multitasking skills with the ability to retain and apply key information.
  • Positive & Adaptable Approach – A proactive, can-do attitude with the flexibility to work across varied tasks and comfortably operate outdoors and on your feet for extended periods.
