About the role
Customer program engineer is the essential link between Customer, Sales, R&D, Factory, external partners, and other related departments in the whole project phase from order to delivery. Customer program engineer manages multiple stakeholders and projects simultaneously, collaborating with intercontinental cross-functional teams and B2B customers. At BYD, Project and program management team consists of a team organized from China, Shenzhen & Europe.
This role will reports to the regional Customer program manager- Iberia
Key responsibilities:
As the first contact window for customers, stationed overseas;
Be responsible for visiting customers regularly, understanding customer needs, and following up customer demands until closing;
Attend the design review meeting and supervise the discussion content of the design review for commercial vehicles;
Promote the communication and material follow-up of customer-specified products or customer-supplied products;
Grasp the market product demand and provide bidding support for tender team process;
Organize and plan customer satisfaction survey and problem feedback follow-up of order delivery, and assist the sales team to maintain customer relationship;
According to request, manage overseas PDI rectification work, including coordinating PDI resources, inviting customers to inspect vehicles, organizing PDI workshop to deliver according to the plan, managing PDI rectification costs and other activities; lead the communication and coordination of the whole process of delivery plan and registration;
Handling of quality and material problems feedback by the body builder & follow-up of production and delivery progress of the cooperation project of the body builder, and handling of abnormalities and risks;
Collect and compile major customer complaints and distribute internally for resolution;
Lead the project near the clients from order to delivery and communication during several production stages, Design Review, FAT, PDI and Final Delivery to ensure the smooth delivery of the project;
Main duties:
Act as communication point of contact for the customers assigned in the region.
Develop a trusted, collaborative partnership with customers, body builders and PDI workshops.
Transfer in efficient way all the requests from customers to BYD organization.
Be responsible for planning Factory Acceptance Test involving all relevant stakeholders.
Plan delivery key activities involving all the relevant stakeholders internal and external (customer, PDI workshop, on-board system suppliers, etc.).
Be able to understand technical problems and solutions to be implemented to smooth communication between BYD and external stakeholders.
Ensure all project documentation is accurate and properly uploaded into BYD system.
Project status reporting: open points tracking and risk analysis during the entire product development phase.
Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines and in a high pace environment.
High level of proactivity is mandatory; be able to anticipate the project risks and activities.
Work independently organizing visits on site to strengthen customer relationships, pre-inspection in production sites and to supervise PDIs activities in the region.
Requirements & competencies:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
Experience: 1–3 years of experience managing multiple engineering projects for different customers simultaneously.
Industry knowledge: Automotive sector, preferably in commercial electric vehicles (electric buses and trucks).
Key skills: Client management, cross-cultural collaboration, conflict resolution, strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
Soft skills: Proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving, strong leadership potential, creativity, excellent time management, and ability to work under pressure.
Languages: Fluent Spanish, English, and Chinese (written and spoken) required; Portuguese is a plus.
Technical skills: Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project.
Travel requirements: Willingness to travel frequently (around 50%) within the Iberian region and occasionally to BYD offices in the EU, Hungary factory, and China.
Other requirements: Valid driver’s license, team-oriented attitude, and ability to work well in international environments.
Nice to have: Experience in B2B sectors, high-tech startups, electric vehicles, alternative energy, batteries, or similar industries, and experience working in international teams.
