NEXTDC is looking for a Custom Engineering Manager to lead tailored fitout engineering solutions and technical proposals across our Hyperscale, Colocation and Edge data centre projects. Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Customer Development, you'll drive proposal development from technical due diligence through to design documentation, working closely with multi-discipline consultants and NEXTDC's engineering subject matter experts to win and deliver customer opportunities.

You'll also lead facility audits, capacity assessments and scope development, partnering with our Design Centre of Excellence to bring standardisation, speed and value to hyperscale projects across Australia.

  • Own technical proposal development for enterprise, hyperscale and neocloud customer opportunities

  • Lead facility audits and capacity assessments across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fuel systems

  • Coordinate multi-discipline consultants and NEXTDC SMEs across architecture, structural, electrical, mechanical, fuel, fire and security

  • Apply NEXTDC design standards and Centre of Excellence lessons learned to improve speed, scale and reliability

  • Work across the full sales cycle, from due diligence through to contract and design handover

  • Play a key role in Australia's hyperscale and colocation growth

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing technical responses to customer opportunities, coordinating input across all disciplines

  • Managing design development from brief through to executable contract documentation

  • Reviewing customer contracts to identify and resolve technical risk

  • Overseeing the shop drawing and technical submittal process to ensure tender compliance

  • Championing safety-in-design and eliminating hazards through robust design practices

  • Managing scope changes, design cost input and quality control across deliverables

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in data centre or mission-critical design management

  • Degree qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Background with consulting engineers, contractors or client-side design management

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects and consultants

  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships

  • Proficient with design and collaboration tools such as Aconex, Procore, MS Project, Revit or Bluebeam
