Job Description

As a Custom Industrial Painter you are responsible for the preparation and maintenance of paint coating and spray booth equipment and systems as well as for the cleaning, sanding, priming, and painting of custom machined-part surfaces. The Industrial Painter will ensure the proper adhesion of both paint and coatings that are designed to stand up to the rugged and challenging terrain of the forestry industry.
Location: 200 Avenue Road, Cambridge, ON
Dedicated Day Shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday
Dedicated Afternoon Shift: 2:30pm - 1:00am, Monday - Thursday
Shift Premium: $3.00 per hour for afternoons
Job Duties
• Use of spray equipment to apply paint and other materials
• Clean and prep surfaces using processes such as sanding, scraping and grinding
• Remove grease, dirt, paint, or rust in preparation for paint application, using abrasives, solvents, or sandblasters
• Responsible for reading and reviewing the electronic paint specifications, apply primer, mix paint to the correct ratio as per paint specifications as well as apply paint based on the exact mil specifications required by our customers
• Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
• Monitor and identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, and correct their causes
• Sand surfaces between coats of paint or primer to remove flaws and enhance adhesion for subsequent coats
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties
• Ensure all paint related waste is properly labeled, stored and disposed of
• Maintain paint booth and associated equipment to ensure proper working condition
• Ensure all Health and Safety procedures are followed
• Safely operate overhead cranes to move material to and from paint booths

Skills and Experience

• Adapt to a changing work environment, competing demands, and able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or other unexpected events
• Attention to detail to ensure precision in painting applications
• Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve effectively and efficiently
• Physical requirements include standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 pounds, and bending
• Understanding of different coatings and their properties
• Familiarity with spray guns, sanders, and other industrial painting tools

Qualifications

• Exposure to apprenticeship programs, classroom instruction or industrial painting experience an asset, or a willingness and desire to learn

About MacDonald Steel Limited

MacDonald Steel, founded in 1957, is a custom steel fabrication and machining plant. Our facility sits on 20 acres of land and the plant floor consists of 190 000 sq ft of fabrication space.

MacDonald Steel includes three divisions; Custom Fabricating, Environmental Systems Division and Specialty Products.

The custom fabrication side of our business manufactures products to our customers’ drawings and specifications. We manufacture parts weighing only a few pounds to items that require special permitting to ship due to size or weight. Our facility provides one stop shopping for our customers.

Environmental Systems division designs, manufactures, installs and services our own dust collectors (Shaker, Reverse Air, Pulse), Cyclones, Rotary Air Locks, Fans, Spark Systems and Bin Covers. Our 50 years of experience is leveraged to offer our customers an exceptional line of products to suit their application.

The Specialty Products division combines the disciplines of design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of brew-on-the premise systems and equipment. Our brew-on premise equipment packages are built to the highest standard in the industry.

MacDonald Steel personnel and welding procedures are certified to CSA W47.1 in the fusion welding of steel products. We have earned American Society for Mechanical Engineers Certification as well as Ontario Technical Standards and Safety Act certification in pressure vessel manufacturing and repairs.
