NORTH & CENTRAL ILLINOIS DIVISION

CHICAGO TEMPLE CORPS

POSITION TITLE: Custodian/Driver

LOCATION/DEPT: Chicago Temple Corps

REPORTS TO: Corps Officers

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: RPT

PAY GRADE: 402

PAY RANGE: $17.00 – $20.40

OUTCOMES

Coordination is given to onsite rentals and cleanliness of the Corps. This position is important as this allows a consistent source of revenue to be maintained for the Corps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance

  1. Complete cleaning tasks on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis.
  2. Maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, including regular cleaning and restocking of soap and paper products.
  3. Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors regularly.
  4. Clean windows and mirrors on a scheduled basis.
  5. Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the building.
  6. Consistently uphold the overall cleanliness and appearance of the Corps facility by following this schedule.
  7. Will maintain janitorial supplies and equipment.

Rentals

  1. Assist in the coordination of facility rentals schedules.
  2. Assists with monitoring rental of Corps facilities before, during, and after an event (to include nights and weekends).
    1. Including opening and/or closing the Corps.
  3. Serve as an on-site person for Corps rental (weddings, basketball, funerals, and other special events).
  4. Will ensure rental space is clean (basic cleaning), safe and ready to use.
  5. Notes significant problems related to rentals or Corps property, if any, to supervisor and Corps Officers.

Driving Duties

  1. Drive the Corps van to include:
    1. pick up of EDS/DHQ goods.
    2. pick up of program participants.
    3. pick up of toys from sponsoring companies.
    4. drop off and pick up kettle workers.
  2. Keeping vehicles fueled up.
  3. Ensure all Corps vehicles receive regular scheduled maintenance and recommended service checks.
  4. Ensure vehicles remain safe, reliable, and in compliance with organizational policies.
  5. Report any issues or problems with the vehicles to the Corps Officers.

Other duties

  1. All other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Under general supervision of the Corps Officers and will interact with other Salvation Army staff members, vendors, donors, volunteers, and individuals whom we serve.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved. Timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed. An evaluation of how effective service is provided.

A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of general cleaning and products.
  • Valid Driver’s license/MVR clearance.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Corps Officers informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do moderate physical work.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 and occasionally 100 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect for others’ property and person; professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
