Position Type: Full-Time, Monday through Friday (year round employment)

Salary: Entry $16.49 to $19.79 depending on experience

Reports To: Lead Custodian

To maintain a clean, safe, and attractive environment for students, staff, and visitors. The custodian also supports daily operations and prepares facilities for events.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety & Accessibility:
    • Assist with snow removal.
    • Ensure site is ready for daily operations and events.
    • Monitor students and staff to prevent injuries.
  • Cleaning & Maintenance:
    • Clean classrooms, offices, restrooms, and grounds.
    • Perform summer maintenance (e.g., wax floors, move furniture).
    • Handle laundry for multiple buildings.
  • Support & Cooperation:
    • Work with other staff on custodial tasks.
    • Deliver supplies and materials.
    • Provide information to staff, students, and visitors.
  • Supplies & Safety:
    • Replenish classroom and restroom supplies.
    • Respond to safety and operational issues (e.g., vandalism, alarms).
    • Secure the facility (e.g., lock doors, set alarms).
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Relevant experience is preferred but not required.
  • Skills: Operate industrial cleaning equipment and follow safety practices.
  • Knowledge: Basic math, industrial cleaning methods, and safety procedures.
  • Abilities: Work with diverse people, manage tasks, solve problems, and adapt to changing priorities.

About Francis Howell School District

The Francis Howell R-III School District encompasses over 150 square miles in the southeast corner of St. Charles County and is one of the largest school districts in the State of Missouri. With an enrollment of nearly 18,000 students and approximately 2,300 employees, the Francis Howell Learning Community works every day to provide a consistent and comprehensive education that fosters high levels of academic achievement for all.

The history of the Francis Howell School District dates back to 1825. Through mergers, the District became the Consolidated School District No. 2 of St. Charles County in 1915. As a result of additional mergers, the District became the Francis Howell Reorganized #3 School District in 1951. The District serves portions of the municipalities of St. Charles, St. Peters, and O’Fallon, as well as Cottleville, Dardenne Prairie, Weldon Spring, New Melle, and unincorporated areas of St. Charles County.

The District’s educational facilities include ten elementary, five middle, and three high schools; three early childhood buildings; and two alternative education schools.
