Custodian I - Iowa Memorial Union (PM)-(26003277)

The Iowa Memorial Union at the University of Iowa is seeking a Custodian I to provide safe, clean, and healthy environment within the Iowa Memorial Union.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks:

  • Floor work including vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing.
  • Clean and provide service to all horizontal and vertical surfaces including glass, walls, ceilings, and light fixtures; working at elevated heights is required.
  • Clean, sanitize and disinfect all restroom surfaces.
  • Use of commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Trash removal both inside and around the exterior of the building.
  • Moving of furniture, supplies and equipment.
  • Report and communicate repair needs for buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to perform a high level of professional communication with students, staff, co-workers, and visitors
  • Position is required to perform a high level of physical activity including positioning self to move objects.

    The schedule for this position is 5:00pm – 1:30am Wednesday - Sunday or Friday - Tuesday.

Qualifications

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
  • 6 months' experience working as a laborer.
  • 3 months of custodial experience.
  • Experience performing labor-intensive work in a residence hall, apartment complex, hotel, hospital, nursing home or similar residential facility.
  • Interest in and the ability to learn basic computer and keyboarding skills; including the ability to access and draft email correspondences and the ability to manage electronic time accruals and personal absence requests. Previous experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to work in variety of environments.
