Position Title: Custodian / Facilities Team Member
Reports to: Alex Comair, VP of Operations
Department: Facilities
Help maintain our bustling campus! DigiPen Institute of Technology is looking for a customer-service oriented Custodian to join our Facilities team. Work alongside a team of Housekeepers, Janitors, and Maintenance Technicians. This position reports directly to the Facility Manager.
The Custodian serves as a team member, performing custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness, organization, and care of facilities. Our Facilities team is an essential provider of customer service for our students and employees.
Tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, common areas, classrooms, and our cafeteria. Occasional projects include furniture moving, basic maintenance assistance, outdoor groundskeeping, and event preparation. Custodians need to follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment and comply with safety policies and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms, and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispensers.
- Clean whiteboards; sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers, replace light bulbs.
- Dust and clean walls, doors, windows, woodwork, furniture, etc.
- Clean kitchenettes, elevators, and stairwells.
- Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
- Strip, clean, buff and apply finish to floors; use high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean carpets.
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as a vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, or ladder for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
- Vacuum furniture, drapery, and walls.
- Secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants.
- Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Report need for repairs and maintenance.
- May operate high-pressure washer.
- Maintain simple records and produce simple reports.
- Wash vents, light fixtures, waste receptacles.
- Wash interior and easily accessible exterior windows.
- Perform cleaning and related duties in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings, using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or to sweep sidewalks or stairs.
- Drive personal or Institute's vehicles to deliver items and commute to various locations in or around campus.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Move furniture when assigned.
- Occasional projects include furniture moving, basic maintenance assistance, outdoor grounds keeping, and event preparation.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Physical ability to do required work.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
Compensation: $20 – $22.50 per hour
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Occasional weekends, if event assistance is needed
