Job Description

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the custodian is responsible for maintaining the center premises and its equipment in a clean, safe, healthy, and comfortable condition inside and outside.

Responsibilities

1. General Duties

  • Follows individual work schedules provided by the Director to indicate specific responsibilities and
  • the time scheduled for them.

  • Cooperates in total staff effort designed to improve the center’s service.
    • Participates in periodic individual conferences and regular staff meetings as scheduled by the Director. These will be called when changes are planned in the children’s program, which affects the cook so that discussions and suggestions for improving the services may be shared among the director and staff. Such meetings will also be called when policy or changes are be to made affecting budgetary needs for food and supplies or rearrangement of space. Participation in staff parties and attendance in parents’ meetings are also encouraged but not required, as a means of promoting a feeling of staff unity and proving opportunities for information exchange of information between parents and total staff.

    2. Special Duties

  • Cleaning
    • Sweep, mop and wax floors of classrooms, offices, halls, kitchen and bathrooms and center so that they are kept in clean and sanitary condition.
    • Clean all bathrooms including fixtures, urinals, toilets, washbowls and wall tiles.
    • Clean stairs, walks, play yards and roof as needed.
    • Remove garbage and trash, clean containers.
    • Care for cleaning equipment used.
    • Keep cots clean.
    • Dust wash down walls
    • Clean and replace bulbs, clean light fixtures.
    • Weekly and tri-monthly cleaning of range hood, if any and its parts as required by the City Division of Fire Prevention.

  • Meal Services – Assists with food service as needed.
  • Records, Supplies and Equipment.
    • Keep inventory and distribute sanitary supplies as needed.
    • Unpack and store supplies.
    • Inform Director of needed sanitary and cleaning supplies, repairs and replacements of cleaning equipment.
    • Repair and paint play equipment and furniture as needed. Make other repairs in center.
    • Move children’s equipment to and from outdoor play space. Move large furniture indoors as indicated.
    • Place and pick up cots as needed.

  • Other related duties as assigned, consistent with the above as well as other programmatic duties.
  • ** Under the supervision of the Director, the custodian employee is responsible for maintaining the center premises and its equipment in a clean, safe, and comfortable condition.

    Qualifications

    • Related experience in general custodial duties, such as cleaning, repairing, and painting.
    • Ability to read and write in order to follow written work schedules.
    • Ability to keep simple inventory of supplies on hand and as needed.
    • Maintain cooperative relationships with other staff, children, parents, and visitors to the center.
    • Ability to maintain facility in a clean environment
    • High School graduate or High School Equivalency diploma.
