Classification Title: Custodian

Classification Salary Range: $3,461 - $4,752 per month

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $3,461 - $3,747

Under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Manager, Custodial Services, the Custodian provides general cleaning, custodial care, and operational support for assigned campus facilities and surrounding areas.

For these positions, Custodians will play an important role in supporting the new Health, Wellness and Recreation Center and creating a positive experience for everyone who uses the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain assigned facilities and surrounding areas
  • Clean and maintain assigned facilities and surrounding areas, including gymnasiums, locker rooms, offices, common areas, entryways, walkways, and other assigned spaces.
  • Dust, damp mop, scrub, refinish, and polish various types of flooring.
  • Clean windows, window sills, blinds, corridors, stairways, patios, entryways, and walkways.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms and replenish restroom supplies.
  • Empty waste containers and remove trash and recyclable materials from inside and outside assigned facilities.
  • Safely use custodial equipment, cleaning supplies, and chemicals.
  • Load and unload custodial supplies and materials.
  • Lock and unlock doors and windows as necessary to help secure buildings and equipment.
  • Assist with moving tables, chairs, furniture, and equipment.
  • Assist with facility and campus event setup and cleanup, which may include moving bleachers and other equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs and adjustments as assigned.

Available Work Schedules

Three positions are available, with one position assigned to each schedule:

Position 1 – Day Shift
Monday–Friday: 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Position 2 – Midday/Weekend Shift
Tuesday–Friday: 11:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

Position 3 – Evening/Weekend Shift
Monday–Thursday: 1:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Sunday: 11:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m.

Work shifts are subject to change based on campus needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

A valid CA driver's license

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of custodial methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate custodial safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to properly use and care for custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to observe and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the position.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations when required.
  • A strong service orientation and commitment to providing a welcoming environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, coworkers, and campus visitors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in custodial cleaning operations.
  • At least one year of custodial experience working in an institution of higher education.
