ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Custodian position at the City of Tucson’s Parks and Recreation Department provides general upkeep, routine cleaning, and sanitizing of department facilities and surrounding areas. Responsible for ordering supplies and keeping supplies fully stocked.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes the interior of the buildings by sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, vacuuming, spot cleaning and dusting. Ensures cleanliness of interior and exterior windows, surfaces, fixtures, countertops, and restroom furniture. Cleans and sanitizes exterior facility areas by keeping walkways, entrances, and stairways clear, sweeping, de-littering areas, and emptying trash receptacles.
  • Operates floor scrubbers and buffers to wax, and buff specialized areas in the facility.
  • Reviews chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and labels cleaning supplies for proper handling. Submits work orders for maintenance and repairs, reads equipment manuals, tracks and orders supplies as needed. Reports emergencies and conducts routine facility inspections, checking equipment for damage and reporting needed repairs or replacements.
  • Helps set up and break down tables, chairs, and wall dividers for facility rentals.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience:
No Experience
Equivalency:
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications:
Valid and Unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Six (6) months of directly related experience
* Experience cleaning and maintaining high-traffic public facilities including recreation centers, community centers, schools, park facilities, or similar environments.
* Experience maintaining facilities utilized by youth, seniors, and the general public.
* Experience using industrial cleaning equipment and supplies
*Ability to work with minimal supervision
