**SPECIAL NOTE: This position will be located at the Durham County Courthouse. This is a second shift posiiton, working hours will be 3:30pm to 11:30 pm, Monday through Friday.**

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to provide general cleaning and maintenance of the Durham County facilities.

This class works under general supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

• Ensures the county facility provides a clean, sanitary, and safe environment by maintaining janitorial services.
• Disinfects, cleans and sanitizes facilities including but not limited to bathrooms, courtrooms, offices and public areas; empty trash; inventory and maintain supplies and materials; restock necessary items in restrooms as needed; and proper use of chemicals while cleaning.
• Performs general outdoor services and maintenance, such as watering plants, sweeping entry areas, cleaning glass doors at entrances.
• Reports major damages through proper reporting channels.
• Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Must have ability to follow simple oral and written instructions;
• Must have excellent customer service skills;
• Must have knowledge of cleaning methods and materials and the ability to utilize cleaning supplies in an effective manner;
• Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS);
• Knowledge of safety measures in the workplace;
• Basic mechanical skills for operation of janitorial equipment;
• Ability to read maintenance manuals;
• Ability to use small hand tools;
• Knowledge of basic computer skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• No previous experience required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

• Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
