The Custodian supports the overall cleanliness, safety, and organization of all Tacoma City Theaters spaces. This position helps ensure the venues remain well-maintained and ready to support performances, rehearsals, and daily operations for staff, artists, and partners.
This part-time position is ideal for someone who enjoys independent, detailed work in a creative environment and can flex their schedule around rehearsal and office activity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Custodial Duties
Perform routine cleaning of rehearsal rooms, studios, green rooms, dressing rooms, and backstage corridors.
Complete weekly cleaning of offices, restrooms, breakrooms, and administrative spaces.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize all assigned areas to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
Empty trash and recycling bins, replace liners, and restock consumables (soap, paper towels, sanitizer, tissues, etc.).
Maintain custodial closets and storage spaces in a clean and organized manner.
Facilities Support
Report maintenance or safety issues (leaks, lighting, HVAC, etc.) promptly to the Facilities Technician.
Support small cleaning or refresh projects during dark days or between rehearsal rentals.
Scheduling & Coordination
Independently carry out tasks and priorities assigned by the Facilities Technician.
Adjust cleaning times around rehearsals, staff meetings, or maintenance schedules as needed.
Track completed work and report supply needs or concerns through established checklists or work order systems.
Qualifications:
Prior custodial or facilities experience preferred in public assembly environments.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Reliable, punctual, and respectful of staff and artist workspaces.
Physically able to lift to 40 lbs., bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks as needed.
Work Schedule:
10–20 hours per week, flexible based on rehearsal and office schedules. Typical coverage includes morning or mid-day cleaning of administrative offices and rehearsal spaces, with occasional evening flexibility when needed.
Work Environment:
This position works primarily in backstage, rehearsal, and administrative spaces across the Pantages, Rialto, Theatre on the Square, Jones Building, and rehearsal studios. May involve brief outdoor exposure between facilities or other public spaces such as lobbies.
Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $19 per hour (Non-exempt)
Overtime: time and one half paid for weekly hours over 40
Sick leave paid in accordance with Washington state law
