Custodial Supervisor
JOB GOAL
The Custodial Supervisor oversees custodial operations for assigned K�8 school campuses within the district. This position ensures clean, safe, sanitary, and secure learning environments that support student achievement and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including Arizona school safety and environmental standards. The Custodial Supervisor provides leadership, training, safety oversight, quality control inspections, and scheduling coordination for custodial staff across elementary and middle school facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimal five (5) years custodial experience.
- Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Card
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Supervise, schedule, assign, and evaluate custodial staff across assigned K�8 campuses.
- Coordinate staffing coverage, including substitute assignments and absences.
- Provide corrective coaching, lead safety meetings, and promote accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Mentor lead custodians and support staff development.
- Oversee daily cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, libraries, gyms, offices, and common areas.
- Plan and supervise deep cleaning, floor care, and carpet maintenance during scheduled breaks.
- Inspect facilities for cleanliness, maintenance needs, and safety hazards.
- Coordinate custodial services for school and community events.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, ADOSH, and Arizona school health and sanitation requirements.
- Enforce proper chemical storage, labeling, handling, and use in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Conduct and document safety inspections; investigate accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain emergency response readiness.
- Train and support staff in cleaning procedures, infection control, equipment operation, ladder safety, and chemical handling.
- Maintain required training records and certifications.
- Monitor custodial supplies, control chemical usage, and minimize waste.
- Assist with budget planning, cost control, and equipment replacement recommendations.
- Collaborate with principals, site administrators, and maintenance, grounds, and transportation departments.
- Respond to campus concerns and work orders.
- Participate in district facilities planning and operational meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of K�8 custodial operations, cleaning methods, floor care, and sanitation practices.
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA, ADOSH, EPA, and Arizona school health and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of chemical handling, SDS, PPE, infection control, and workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate diverse teams.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to monitor inventory, control costs, and evaluate equipment needs.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and work order systems.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, administrators, and district departments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- May require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
- Requires extensive walking, standing, and climbing stairs across outdoor campus environments during varied weather conditions.
- Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 of force constantly to move objects.
