High school diploma or GED; four years of experience in custodial work, including one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Considerable knowledge of cleaning methods, tools and equipment used in custodial work; of hazards and safety practices related to custodial operations. Ability to operate custodial tools and equipment; to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; to supervise staff.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Supervises, trains and evaluates the work of supervisory and non-supervisory custodial staff engaged in cleaning activities in large public buildings, other facilities, and surrounding areas at various sites
-Plans and manages work assignments, projects and shift schedules;
-Develops, updates, and evaluates work and/or safety standards, policies and procedures;;
-Instructs and/or oversees the training of staff in safety methods, cleaning techniques and proper use of equipment;
-Inspects buildings, facilities and other assigned areas to monitor and maintain standards of work performance and satisfactory work progress; identifies problem areas and takes corrective action;
-Reviews and evaluates service requests;
-Supervises, requisitions and maintains inventory of janitorial supplies, materials and equipment;
-Coordinates, plans, organizes, schedules, and supervises custodial operations to prepare for special events; perform other work as required.
