Job Duties:

The custodial Service Program Manager is responsible for leading and insuring the execution of campus wide custodial operations. This unit of Facilities management provides all custodial services for academic buildings, recreation buildings, student centers, administration buildings and student residence halls. The campus is composed of 29 buildings totaling 3.1M square feet. Additionally, there are two leased properties that require custodial support. This role directs multiple supervisors and a total staff of 80 +/- which is also supplemented by students, LTE employees, and contracted service providers as necessary.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff positions LTE and students. This would include writing position descriptions, interviewing, hiring, discharges, suspensions, promotions, conducting performance evaluations, recommend transfers, disciplinary and grievance action, training, assignment of duties, delegating work and fostering teamwork.
  • Develop practices and processes that align with the University’s core values, including equity and diversity as well as the university’s long-term vision
  • Lead the operation into a service-orientated direction that recognizes its importance in the necessary service it provides for student and staff enrichment, as well as its value in contributing to the recruitment and retention of students
  • Plan, organize and control for the accomplishment of immediate and long-range goals and responsibilities of the Custodial unit.
  • Develop and administer operating policies and procedures.
  • Organize staff assignments to meet the operational needs of each building.
  • Administer policies for medical leave of absence, limited duty requirements and early return to work. Coordinate efforts and information with other campus offices involved in a timely manner.
  • Conduct routine and spontaneous inspection tours of campus buildings to enable timely response to changing needs or to make adjustments as necessary to normal procedure. Maintain an effective quality control program.
  • Work to improve “green” or sustainable cleaning methods and establish goals for reducing the Custodial unit’s carbon footprint.
  • Ensure that safety standards, security procedures and work rules are observed and maintained.
  • Utilize SharePoint web site to notify and provide informational resources to staff.
  • Ensure training for safe working procedures, equipment operations and in-depth training of new employees.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and practices in custodial services and plan on-going training program, including appropriate cleaning procedures, proper use of equipment and all required safety training.

  • Monitors unit record keeping to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Develops, directs, and monitors the implementation of cleaning standards, emergency planning and response, and staffing strategies across multiple work units
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Identifies, develops, and facilitates unit staff training opportunities

Compensation:

$80,000-$86,000, commensurate on skills and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to train, guide and direct the work of student and professional staff
  • Developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High degree of Emotional intelligence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership/management experience
  • Experience supervising student staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)
